Underneath the talk, Democrat and Republican leaders are nearly identical in their support for bigger government, more centralization, less constitutional protections, more globalism, more power to international banks and central banks, and less transparency and accountability.

The Republicrat party

As stated earlier, elections in the U.S. do not decide the future of our nation, but they do in many ways reflect the level of insanity that our collective society has reached, and, they also can reflect the direction in which the establishment hopes to send us.

During the Great Depression, frugality was considered a virtue and the phrase “Use it up, Wear it out and Make it do” was the guiding principal in most households.

The fact that even some of the accredited educators at Harvard feel compelled to jump on the “safe space” bandwagon speaks volumes about how American universities have forfeited their place as the institutions of higher learning.

Someone recently blogged: In war, truth is the first casualty; when an empire is falling, the leaders often distract people from their failures by getting into wars; is it possible that preferring pleasant fantasies to truth is one of the symptoms of the fall of an empire? Then a number of real life examples were produced.

I wonder if USA dominance is ending

Used to be, colleges were supposed to make people smarter. These days, they seem determined to make 'em stupid.

Thomas Paine, in his book Common Sense, stated, “A long habit of not thinking a thing wrong, gives it a superficial appearance of being right…”

Someone who is ignorant can appear stupid, but is that always true? Someone commented that there is no such thing as teaching, just learning. If a group calls itself a school, but doesn't assist students to use good methods of learning, are they a school

Why do these immigrants come here to escape from their 3rd-world shitholes -- and then insist on continuing to do all the things that made them 3rd-world shitholes?

Licensing, when the government takes away your right to do something and then sells it back to you.

Licensing makes sense for some things, where some random idiot can cause disasters - airline pilots spring to mind.

Unfortunately, once the government gets into the licensing business they want to license everything, whether it makes sense or not. Dog-walking licenses? And of course we must Save The People from the dangers of unlicensed lawn mowing.

I'm doing some work on my house and the permits cost more than the work.

We don't have that problem here, on our local level. They do insist on knowing that the work will be solid. If you live in a polity that has leaders who retain common sense and honesty, get down on your knees and thank God :!:

Credit-market troubles are "contagious" and are amplified by leverage.

Same source:

The point is, these problems are going to be transmitted through financial firms, through cross holdings, and through credit ratings and losses.

There is a major difference between getting rich by saving and producing, and getting "rich" by borrowing, as most of the world seems to be trying now.

From the same source:

(Trust me, Russia isn't the only country led by kleptocrats.)

Many more are interested in getting in on the gravy train, or being envious, bringing down those who are doing better, instead of studying why they are doing better. When anyone does better, studying their methods, looking for honest and effective possibilities, makes the most sense.

It is hard to know whether the politicos don't believe that it is the economy, not the government, which creates value, or whether they understand that but are determined to get theirs without producing real value themselves. There are likely some of each type. These quotes weren't talking about some third world country, but about a certain rich country whose leaders seem determined to turn it into a third world quality country
:!:

It is one thing to have principles: it’s quite another, however, to apply those principles to reality – not by compromising them, but by recognizing that one-dimensional models of human behavior will not chart a course to liberty.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is such a difference

-- Justice Louis Brandeis (1856-1941)
If the Government becomes a lawbreaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy."

Nuff said
;)

It was the great Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto who noticed – among other things – that no matter what kind of government you think you have, there are always some crafty insiders, the "foxes," who take control of it.

With practice, they get worse, and most people don't notice it at all.

AKA "the deep state"
;)

A responsible politician warns of sacrifice ahead; an irresponsible one promises relief from the current anxiety without sacrifice.
