Lol, because it's hard to find a different shit head, never mind an actual better one.

There is some obligation. You can't just dump people into a war zone, or the middle of the ocean.

Not sure how far that obligation extends to be honest, but I do know it should extend further than Manus island.

I agree Imaginos1892, that no country has an obligation etc.
However nothing to do with humans is clear cut. A country may not have a legal obligation, but the citizens of that country may have an ethical or moral obligation in their hearts to help those who "there but for the grace of god go you and I".

There is an other more pragmatic side though. As the Europeans and us get an aging demographic, it may be sensible to get new blood into the countries to invigorate us.
Plus being pragmatic, it is not much use being the richest octogenarian in the nursing home if no one is prepared to take a job that includes wiping your arse.

I'm by nature an optimist and see the successive waves of refugees we have taken in over my long lifetime assimilating. We have gained Greek, Italian, and Vietnamese food among others; yet we have retained the Aussie ethos. A part of our ethos is "taking the mickey" laughing at ourselves, and a myriad of TV and stage shows have shown that our new citizens have joined in.

I trust in the teenage rebellious spirit to corrupt the next generation. On a recent flight I was seated in a row with two Burqua clad females. Mumma either didn't know or mind daughter listening to Eminem on her iPod. We'll have them surfing and eating pork tenderloin on the BBQ within a generation.

Well, I would guess that at the very least they check for the language and basic knowledge of the country, either geographically or culturally in some way. that would probably weed out a fiar portion of fakers who cant speak the language and know nothing about the country.

Imaginos1892 wrote:And just how do you do background checks on hordes of "refugees" from a place where the social order has broken down? Where at least two of the extant "governments" are terrorist organizations? How do you know that even the "legitimate government" won't pull a Castro and dump their prisons on you?

No country has any obligation to take in hordes of "refugees" of which an unknowable number are insurgents, mass murderers and rapists.

A basic reason to own a weapon is self-defense. A legal firearm is a great equalizer to the average citizen. Owning a firearm for self defense has doubled their chance at survival for the disabled and the senior citizens because criminals do not obey the law.

Never mind that the statistics don't say that at all, and that concealable handguns were banned before and after the changes.
Before the laws were tightened there were virtually no women "packing heat" with which they could defend their virtue, and the same (approaching zero) number after.
Why do some right wingers just make up things expecting that no one will call them on it?
He is the one people are hoping will beat Trump to win the Republican nomination. We are so screwed.

Because they know they can get away with it, as too many will just shout "HELL YEAH!!!" and try to vote twice for them just to make sure...

Excuse me...both sides lie! Heck if I did what Hilary did with classified emails (not counting setting up a private email server), I would be in jail for many years. Now, here in America the fastest growing segment of the population is women owning guns! I wonder why that is?

Well I think I can answer the question "Now, here in America the fastest growing segment of the population is women owning guns! I wonder why that is?"

As virtually no women in our country or any of the developed world need to carry guns to defend themselves, the answer must be because their society has too many guns and they need to defend themselves in that society.

Importing Muslim males from a Rape culture might have something to do with it.

The amount of bigotry and prejudice in that single sentence is staggering.

You may want to avoid reading the rest of this forum... that is hardly the worst example.
