UNlikely, but you never know...

I forget, has rose matched the two of them yet? It'd be cute and amusing.

And yes, having the two of them win for once would be nice. Tying it up in a single battle verges on poetic.

Nah Jeff, rose is hogging Higgins for herself... :) ;)

But this is one of those scenes I've 'written' in my head, but will never put in electrons here lest the WoD (Wrath of Duckk) descend upon me.

I suspect most of have written our own 'favorite' scene (I have three snippets on paper that will never go any farther).

Maybe we need a thread to mention them (without writing anything that would include the WoD, of course).

Well hold back your glee why don't ya. I LOVE IT!

Been trying to get another major League-GA dustup like forever.

<scratches head> There really isn't 600 ISLN SD's in Tasmania is there? <He exclaims as he bolts out of hapless boredom.>

Or is this some form of practical joke, facetiousness. Treecat sanctioned prank?

If so. Bad. Not nice to go and get my hopes up with such a huge shot of literary adrenaline. The aftermath is a steep plunge back into gloom and sadness. Oh the gloom. OH THE GLOOM. Darkness. Looming. Everywhere.

Oh, they are out there, based on Rampajets'(sp?) actions in Mission of Honor...

"At the same time, however, we realize there's no way to be certain of that, and we're prepared for the possibility that the Manties may be insane enough not to surrender. We're even prepared for the possibility that they may have sufficient of their new missiles available from existing stores to beat off Filareta's attack, at least temporarily. Which is why the redeployment of our active wall is designed to concentrate no fewer than an additional five hundred wallers on Tasmania—this time with complete logistical support and a powerful Frontier Fleet screen—within two and a half months. In three months' time, that total will reach six hundred. Which means we'll be able to dispatch a second wave, substantially larger and even more powerfully supported, against Manticore within a maximum of five months—long before they will have been able to restore sufficient industrial capacity to re-ammunition their own ships."

I have been arguing (unsuccessfully, I will admit) that this fleet might have sailed before the recall action by Admiral Kingsford in A Rising Thunder (after Filareta's Folly) could get out there. Most of the folks disagree with me, but hey, it's my imagination and I get to make the ruels... :) 8-)

Yes, I am sure that everyone has at least written a few scenes in their head. Silly me has gotten so caught up in character that one or two of mine has slipped and ended up posted. I recently tried to start a thread that asked for some-same such plots. I didn't mean to cross the line into violating the Duckk Edict. Before I knew it, excitement, imagination and passion had gotten the best of me.

Which gives me a chance to mention something I've always thought about. If RFC concludes the Honorverse series in several more books and discontinues, does anyone see disillusioned fans continuing the series in much the same fashion as what happened in the Trek world, with writers such as Diane Duane?

Hutch, it's funny about Genevieve Chin. That battle in Manticore was supposed to be her redemption ticket getting punched. And she thought she had it too. Did have it had it not been for Sally hypering in and snatching the rug out from under her.

When I think of Chin, I remember little kids running behind the ice cream truck and their parents getting them an extra scoop of the delicious stuff and they are smiling. Then some other little lucky lad comes along and his parents buys him three scoops, and instead of smiling, he's grinning like a Cheshire cat taunting the other little kids. Then gravity takes over and that triple mound of awe-inspiring jealousy topples over into the dirt. For a second the kid considers picking it up. But dropped ice-cream is just too unforgiving. It's just not savable. Now the other little kids are happy to have just two scoops, it's safer. And they tighten their grip on their prizes, no need to give tit-for-tat, the other little kid just dropped his just dessert.

My mother would never buy us three scoops. She kept telling us we'd drop it.

The Battle of Manticore was Chin's third scoop.

And the ice-cream ship has long since sailed away and the wonderful ditty coming out of its speakers is now a mean tortuous taunting to little crying kids as well as the racially intended audience.

So yea, now I feel bad for laughing at Chin. Give her another scoop.

Perhaps she's learned that a scoop in hand tastes better than three on land. Many kids sure did.

Anton Zilwicki after the Manpower Incident is practically in that category - sort of beached forever due to the political mess that caused and getting Manticoran dirty laundry aired so publicly while a serving officer.

I remember mention of this somewhere in textev, but was a formal passage offered of it? And surely, after the prodigal spy returned with Cachat, he was off the hook.
There were a couple of mentions at the start of "Crown of Slaves, to wit:

...That very morning, in fact, and by his lover Cathy Montaigne.

"I think Mommy was right," whispered Berry. "You should have worn your uniform."

"They put me on half-pay," he growled. "I'm supposed to wear that silly dress uniform—most uncomfortable thing I own—afterward? Like a poodle sitting up to beg forgiveness?"

Again, the majordomo and the officers got stiff-faced. But Elizabeth simply gave Anton a long and considering look. "No, that you haven't," she said. "Someday you'll have to tell me all the details of what happened in Chicago, but I know enough about the affair to understand the heart of it. Two swine gave you a choice between being a father and having a career, and you shoved the choice right down their throats."

It was not, Anton reflected, normally considered appropriate for a monarch to refer to her ambassador to the most powerful star nation in the galaxy and to one of her more senior admirals as "swine." Not that Elizabeth seemed concerned by the thought.

"Did you hesitate at all?" she asked.

"Not for a second." He moved his massive shoulders in a little shrug. "Being a beachcomber's not so bad, when you get down to it."

"Good. I believe I can trust a man who isn't afraid of being on the beach when he has to."

I think he is still 'independent', that is, he is not a part of the Government/Crown, but obviously he is now closely associated with them.
TRAFFIC IN THIS LANE USE DETOUR.

Or whichever traffic sign you pay more attention to. I am not intending to strike up a conversation about politics, but to give a little history leading up to this post.

It is time to consider our Presidential candidates. I'm simply thrilled that Hilary will run. I'm tickled pink at the opportunity to vote for a woman. It's icing on the cake that I also think she'll do a damn fine job.

One of the main issues that seem to threaten many candidates is the topic of gay marriage. On the one hand you have constituents who are Christians and see gay marriages as a threat to religious beliefs and the institution of marriage. On the other, you have those constituents who are concerned with separation of church and state and the issue of government insinuating itself into our personal affairs and bedrooms. It's a sticky subject better than any soap opera.

It is sad that America still has problems with turn of the century issues. And government, corporations, and individuals are frightened to tackle these taboo subjects. Interracial relationships are still a taboo subject on many tv programs, commercials, endorsements, etc. etc. etc. How can we discuss gay rights when we can't even tackle interracial issues?

But those entities that are willing to tackle those issues head on and stand by them come out as winners and leaders. There was a rather controversial Cheerios commercial, starring an interracial family. I cannot believe that that commercial and Cheerios representatives took so much negative flak. Cheerios was bombarded with requests to pull the commercial off the air. Cheerios basically told that segment of people to suck it! Bravo Cheerios.

America is so damn confused. At any rate, I praise writers, producers and authors who aren't afraid to tackle certain issues. I immediately praised Weber for not only placing black people in the Honorverse, but the Queen of Manticore is black! I didn't see that one coming.

So, I arrive at the exit marker of my post. Is it time for Weber to take on gay marriage? Will he lead the way? I can certainly understand why many corporations, writers, producers and leaders steer clear of such issues. Things can go into the crapper very quickly.

If Weber was to tackle the issue of gay marriage, it should be with a very visible character. Unsuspected. Abigail would do that quite well. And she would be believable, as far as her Grayson upbringing and women living so closely together. Abigail and Stacy Hauptman somehow meeting and falling in love would sell lots of tickets. It'd be a sell out. I'd buy them all. And it'd be a sure-fire way for Weber to snag another segment of readers.

She could even end up joining Honor, Emily and White Haven. At any rate, what do you think of Weber tackling this on-the-front-burner issue?

It'd be an awesome POV.

F/F marriage? WIN.

Literally everything about the prospect of Sonja and Shannon falling in love with each other while out at Bothole? EPIC WIN.
