Re: Performance of Level 6 Specialty Simulator

Admiral:

Following the successful engagement and destruction of the Manpower cruiser Bird of Prey in the Formori Sector, I assigned Lt. Stark, my Chief Engineer, to simulator time to study for the Senior Grade boards. The BuTrain standard qualification time for advancement from training level 19 to training level 20 is 7 days, but we had installed a Level 6 Specialty Simulator on the bridge. This device is rated to reduce training time by 20%, but it did not change the amount of time required.

Our bridge is running on iOS (interservice Operation Software) 7.1.1, and as an interface I am using an 16 GB (GoogolByte) Hypercommunicator (although the crew have taken to calling it a “hy-phone” or simply “iPhone”) running on the network from Astrographic Telecommunications & Technology.

Please advise on whether there is a timeline for patching this component, or if we will have to schedule yard time to refit a replacement.

Yr Mst Hmbl & Obdt Svt,

Norman Schaeffer

Re: Performance of Level 6 Specialty Simulator

Captain:
Firstly Captain, it is highly irregular of you to ignore your chain of command by bringing this performance report to Admiral of the Green Ormskirk. As you might imagine, Admiral Ormskirk is heavily involved in planning the response to the latest Havenite action in what has been termed Operation Thunderbolt. In the future, please bring all such reports up through the regular channels.

Having said that, your Chief Engineer has indeed found a trivial, yet completely disabling problem with the BuTrain Level 6 Specialty Simulator. In fact… all BuTrain simulators are suffering from this same, err, rounding error.

Operations has reported back the said issue has been satisfactorily resolved and the new component is entering final testing. We are expecting shipment of these new components to commence in approximately 10 days. There is a long queue at our A.pp.L.E. testing and warehousing facility, which can be inconvenient when rolling out these upgrades.

Further reviewing your report, I would, with the utmost respect, suggest that your Chief Engineer upgrade your 16 GB Hypercommunicator to the recently released HyperTablator as the expanded screen size makes your tactical officers 78% more effective in combat. By all means your current hy-phone is sufficient, so only upgrade if you feel the resultant value would be worth the expense.

Please contact me directly if the component displays any additional irregularities.

Respectfully,

Jeff Litchford

[Yesterday afternoon, I got the following reply from Secret Fleet Support. From now on I'm submitting all my bug reports as dispaches.

"Admiral Ormskirk" FTW :)]

Re: Recent Reports of Sabotaged Training Simulators

My Dear Sir,

It is with a heavy heart that I admit this problem is wide-spread; and as Head of BuTrain I am personally aggrieved by this error. My own personal Hyper Transport Craft One as well as my attendant's Interservice Operating Software craft both have exhibited the faulty behavior you have described. This is most distressing news indeed.

Since we are yet again at war, I see few plausible explanations other than foul play.

While this turn of events is regrettable, we have faith in the training regimen instilled at Saganami Island Academy and trust that your officers will continue to level at their slow, yet steady, rates until we can determine the precise cause of the malfunctioning simulators.

Train your crew the old-fashioned way, and give the enemy hell.

I am, &c.; Lord Sir Frederick Ormskirk, Earl of Tanith Hill

I think that this implies that there is at least one person at Evergreen with actual military knowledge.

Lucasarts brought in a few military people for Episode 3 and as a result, the Clone Troopers actually moved more like actual trained troops.

Actually... perhaps the USA's armed forces could spare a company for a couple of weeks to act as the enlisted crew of the Fearless... using military personnel would certainly give a better impression of a military organisation...

...and the bug reports might be a freeze-frame bonus, scattered across a desk as the camera pans round.

Re: After Action Report on Recent Engagement

FormSecCom:

While performing a routine investigation into a suspected pirate arms warehouse Dauntless was surprised to discover that the SLNS Imperious was also present, and took the pirate's side in the ensuing engagement. Despite heavy fire from the TWO opponents
Image
Dauntless proceeded to engage.

The pirate warehouse and SLNS ship were observed to have poor coordination and firecontrol; friendly fire was observed (note the hull damage visible while Dauntless's first salvo is being tracked outbound.)

It is believed that the SLNS ship was using advanced electronic warfare to spoof our sensors, as they were reporting nearly undamaged targets even while visual observation showed the station and ship breaking up
Image

Despite the ineffectiveness of the combined forces (the battle was ended by the original salvo of hull perpetrators from Dauntless) overt SLNS support for pirates, and the observed spoofing of our sensors, seem most serious matters.

I don't think I wrote this up as well, having no military experience of my own, but it was fun to try. I had the same basic fight happen a few times before I force closed the iOS app and restarted it. In some fights the ship that was superimposed on the station could be seen rolling wedge; which was an odd sight. But unfortunately one I didn't get a screenshot of. In all the cases damage pop ups were visible as soon as the fight began, long before any missiles reach their targets

Unfortunately I didn't. I was basically just replaying that mission over and over for resources and better components and was on auto-pilot. I thought to grab the screenshots, but I'd honestly forgotten about the Everyplay option until well after I'd restarted the app

If it ever reoccurs I'll try to remember to do so.

But yeah, that's a panic inspiring rainbow of inbound firepower
