Well I guess she wound up not having too much trouble with that after all...

I have a new one! From SoS and the Battle of Monica:

His people were doing their best, but seven weeks of combined simulator and hands-on training wasn't enough. It wasn't second nature to them, wasn't instinctive. The slight hesitation in their responses, the friction in the decision loops, might not have been apparent against another Verge navy. But he didn't face another Verge navy. He faced the Royal Manticoran Navy, and that was a mistake few survived.

I also love to hear about how bada$$ the RMN is from an outside perspective.

So do I Amaroq. So do I.
One of my favorite that comes to mind is from a peep, forget who, and I'll paraphrase...

"Whatever you say about the Manties, they don't run scared worth a damn."

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

And a couple of extras from In Enemy Hands:

"He demonstrated what happens when a pinnace brings its wedge up inside a boat bay, Skipper," McKeon told her, and Honor blinked again, with a sort of appalled respect.

"I see," she said, and then the right side of her mouth twitched. "Remind me to never, ever get you angry at me, Horace."
- first time in eleven years that Honor called him Horace.

"If anyone's outnumbered here," Lady Dame Honor Harrington told her friends softly, "it's the Peeps."
THe MWW has had some great quotable endings for books-may he never lose that touch.

That was from Mission of Honor, the April 'header', as spoken by Thomas Theisman. I knew that since it is one of my favorties too.

And since I was browsing MoH, here's an exchange that I always found enjoyable while sounding plausable...

"I'm very sorry to disturb you, Madam President," he said, rather more formally than he normally addressed her when the others weren't present, "but I thought about it very carefully, first. Technically, there's no reason I had to screen you right this moment, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that you'd never forgive me if I waited till morning."

"I beg your pardon?" Pritchart's topaz eyes had narrowed intently.

"You may remember that we've all been concerned about a certain intelligence operative who'd dropped out of sight?"

He paused, and the eyes which had just narrowed flared wide.

"Yes," she said rather more slowly, "as a matter of fact, I do remember. Why?"

"Because he's just reappeared," LePic said. "And he has a friend with him. And the two of them have a new friend—one I think you're going to want to talk to yourself."

"And is Sheila going to be willing to let me into the same room with this 'new friend' of his?"

"As a matter of fact, I think she's likely to pitch five kinds of fit at the mere prospect," LePic said a bit wryly. "But since I'm quite positive Kevin is going to want to be there, as well—not to mention Tom, Wilhelm, and Linda Trenis—I feel fairly confident about your security."

Bosun MacBride's intro in HAE (from Wanderman's perspective):

...the woman looked as if she'd just stepped out of a recruiting poster.

And her confrontation with Steilman:
"You remember what happened the last time you and I locked up, Steilman? Well, don't worry. You go right ahead and try me again if you want. Wayfarer has a fine doctor."

Now I really want to know what that earlier dustup was like.

Dustup? Never heard that term before. I like. O I C, You mean how much dust she dusted up off the floor with him?

Thanks for those memories.
You know, I miss McBryde. She was a real Navy's woman! A man's woman. I could just see that entire scene. With McBryde rocking on her heels, hoping Steilman would just 'make her day.'

I'd like to know what the previous engagement was all about as well. And just how bad did she pummel him. And how much did she enjoy it?

It's just a slang term for a fight. It's maybe more country than city.

Where's that Shannon quote..."Oops!"

Nice dig outta the archives, tac-witch. :D

Changer of Worlds
He accessed the relevant portion of her record, and something suspiciously like a snort escaped before he could throttle it. He turned it into a reasonably convincing coughing fit, but his mouth quivered as he scanned the appended note. Buzzed the Commandant's boat during the Regatta, had she? No wonder Hartley had lowered the boom on her! Still, he must have thought well of her to stop there, although the identity of her partner in crime might also have had a bit to do with it. Couldn't exactly go tossing the King's niece out, now could they? Well, not for anything short of premeditated murder, at any rate. . . .

I like this passage for many reasons. But the least of them isn't because it is evidence of Honor's and Michelle's mischievous stage. Or is that miscreant stage?

Can anyone guess what movie a similar thing happened?

Dum dum dum dum dum dum dummmmmmm
Dum dum dum dum dum da dum da dum da dum dum dum dumm dum dum dum

Dum da dum da dum...dum...dum...da dum (jeopardy)
