I don't see myself posting on the Cupid thread anytime soon, although I do read it with amusement.

Makes you less of a curmudgeon than I. I haven't read it since the first post.

I have another Mark Twain quote that seems appropriate:

"Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it."

While re-reading Shadow of Freedom I noticed a nice exchange between Naomi Kaplan and Alvin Tallman, her XO.

(My apologies if it's been mentioned before. I have been following this topic since it started, but after 68 pages :!: my poor brain can't quite remember all the posts.)

"Looks to me like these Saltashans have a few bones of their own to pick with the Sollies."
"Who doesn't?" Kaplan asked bleakly.
"Only people who've never met them," Tallman replied.

I have this very old jean jacket from college. My sister refers to it as my Linus jacket. I have seen much of your work poker that I would simply LOVE to have made into patches. This is one of them!

No need for apologies. This thread is for your favorite one-liners (or passages, as some of them have been), so if there's a repeat, it just means that it's a bit more popular than others.

“I’ve been to some remarkable weddings in my time,” Jacques Benton-Ramirez y Chou said, “but this one…”

He waved his champagne glass at the glittering crowd thronging the grounds of Mount Royal Palace. Security was tight, and treecats were much in evidence. Many of them rode on shoulders threaded throughout that crowd, and others—dozens of others—perched cheerfully on the branches of landscaped trees, on ornamental gazebos and roofs. They could be heard every now and then, even through the steady surf of human voices and the music of the live orchestra, bleeking to one another as they enjoyed the human mind-glows swirling about them like rich, heady wine.

This scene is amazing. The mention of treecats actually in trees is interesting, but the kicker is that this is the first mention of an occasion where treecats actually enjoyed human mind glows to such an extent. It is as if for once they were basking in it. It is good to know that there are occasions where treecats were not just tolerating human mind glows. Of course I am referring to large gatherings of people where there usually was a mention of treecats empathic senses being bombarded.

I had forgotten all about Dicey. I wonder how Dicey is faring.
This also reminds me of another interest, of how treecats interact with house pets. I don't recall RFC giving us a scene regarding a treecat and a regular housecat or a dog.

Nice post Yow. You dug deep down in the archives for that one.
