The lieutenant commander's voice was soft, almost inaudible in the quiet cabin, and he stared down at his hands.

Of course, as I mentioned in an earlier post, Lester Tourville says the same the same thing in only four words in War of Honor:

She has the Touch.

It's because of outside POVs like this that I would've like to see say, Diamato's or Bellefeuille's reactions to meeting "the Salamander" and even all of the infamous Manty COs they've been fighting for so long. I like those reverse-angle looks.

Here's one from the Duke of Cromarty feeling absolutely awful about what he has to do in the wake of Honor's duel with Young to hold the government together and successfully fight the war:

"Tell me, Willie," the Prime Minister of Manticore said softly, "why anyone but a madman would want my job?"

Hutch.
In my original post, when I said I'd supply my own tissue, well this post is exactly what I mean. It gets me every time.

“Each of those LACs has more missile defense capability than one of your Rampart-class or War Harvest-class destroyers,” she told him. “In fact, they probably have more antimissile capability than one of your cruisers.

I had no idea that LACs had that much anti-missile capability.
How can that be so? I mean, as much anti-missile capability as a cruiser? I know we're talking a Solarian cruiser but still. Isn't there a considerable size differential? What am I missing here...again?

And at this moment there are two thousand of them deployed with each of my forces. Which doesn’t even consider what our onboard defenses and EW will do to your birds.” She shook her head. “Your fire isn’t getting through my defenses, Admiral. Not enough of it to do you one bit of good.”

Sometimes an author's words are worth a single acute image.
I can literally see Honor shaking her head, and rolling her eyes.

RFC is ahead of his time...we're just fortunate readers.

That was a bit of an "Oh, crap" moment for me when I realized how deeply the MA has some of their sleepers. Although until CoG I didn't know if Audrey O'Hanrahan knew she was a Mesan "spy" or not.

You hit the nail on the head regarding one of my own sentiments.

Audrey O'Hanrahan's part in the Mesan Alignment's plan is...brilliant.

In fact I am in awe of the Alignment's incredible foresight to have placed a journalist on Manticore to sway public and political opinion. That just impresses the hell out of me!

It's also frightening, because along with your own sentiments I wonder as well how many other sleepers the MA has out there? Are we going to discover one or more of our best loved characters as a Mesan sleeper?

I'm thinking Salt, with Angelina Jolie. As soon as we fall in love with her character, we learn she's a sleeper.

Another question, just like with Jolie in Salt, at what point does the MA inform a sleeper, that they were...sleeping? Likewise with Jolie, you have to worry about the sleeper developing their own loyalties and mindset.

You can't inform them too soon, before they are physically and mentally ready to be activated, that could instigate the beginnings of a security risk. Yet if you wait too long, their inner being could resist.

Seems all too complicated.

What you're missing is "quality". Manty LACs with current Manty CM tech (as well as any ECM that the LACs themselves might be able to bring to bear) is far ahead of SLN missile tech. Sure, the DDs she mentioned might have more in quantity, but overall, they are less effective than RMN CMs. Also, don't forget the many point defense clusters that the LACs have as well.

Notice she didn't say that RMN LACs have a higher "quantity" of CMs, just that the *capabilities* of her LACs are better than those SLN destroyers or cruisers.

Quantity may have a quality all its own, but sometimes, quality is better no matter how big the quantity differential is.

You are absolutely right, she didn't say that they had a higher quantity. My brain automagically jumped the gun.

Thanks for clearing that up. The fact is still amazing mind you, but I understand.

This is something else that perhaps the movie will clear up...the actual size of ships.

Although I can't remember if LACs were available during Honor of The Queen.

There were over four hundred superdreadnoughts on his plot, and if they were even half as capable as Harrington had described, they were more than enough to cut through every active unit of Battle Fleet like a laser through ice cubes.

What?
A Solarian Admiral actually admitting how outclassed they are?
Filareta essentially admitted that every single active ship in Battle Fleet's order of battle was useless junk...much less his present command.

Ouch!

Too bad Filareta had to die, I actually like him. He has a brain.

Yes. They shot the hell out of Fearless.

I actually feel the same way. I was starting to think he might end up being another Theisman or Tourville - an enemy you could respect. OTOH, it kinda falls into the MAlign's plans in a way - the way they set this up, the SLN lost a fairly competent officer, which means more idiots available for "helping" them along.
