The eARC is out already!!

I know, I have it already. But I am quite behind. I had just started on the anthologies that you nice forumites has brought to my divided attention, and then I had to put it down because I realized I never got around to A Rising Thunder (reading it now)

And my very thirty-three days long vacation is over and my work is piled up my rear causing constipation. So leisure time, short it is, is split between Gemma, niece, reading, forum, niece, niece, niece, Gemma, Gemma, Gemma, and my programming.

In other words I'm up the creek without a paddle or a boat!

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

She's beautiful and all, but I've always done quite well on the meet the parents night.

Meet the Queen. Not sure I could bullshit a Queen that's surely heard it all, whose profession is to detect liars, whom has help in a little furry friend to do just that.

First thing Ariel will report to the family was my intentions...

I'm sure Michelle will be heartbroken.... for about five minutes until Lester sweeps her off her feet.

It's ok, I'm really quite happy with Stacey.
At least with her I know what I'm getting, everything about her is real! ;)

That's what the hip waders and snorkel are for. And as for time, who needs sleep?

Now wait just one female-in-labor minute.
Hip waders? Snorkel?
Are these things standard issue?
You're just bragging on your lucrative incentive package aren't you!?
I probably would have had to give up my entire sign-on bonus for maybe one of those items.

Now this sleep thing sounds foreign. (rubbing his chin)
Oh now I remember! That's what you do while at work, right?

“Should I assume Lady Gold Peak sent a recommendation along with her report?”

“She did, Madame Governor.”

“And you’re not going to tell me what it was unless I pull it out of you with a pair of pliers, right?”

"You know, I’m beginning to wonder exactly what qualifications the Sollies look for in candidates for their naval academy. I mean there has to be a filtering process. You couldn’t just go out and pick middies at random and get such an invariably stupid crop of flag officers. There has to be some kind of system. If you just picked names out of a hat, for example, somebody would have to have a functional brain."

Wait, is that a super-long mid-labor "will this ever be over" minute, or a super-quick "I'm pushing and have lost all sense of time, what do you mean it's been three hours" minute? :D

Also, another quote that's even funnier in hindsight:

Poor Tom. The least political person ever gets hijacked by his star nation and his blasted sense of duty into a political career. You've got to feel sorry for the man - you know he'd rather be commanding a fleet in space somewhere.

Oh well, at least he has Eloise to help him through it.

What gave it away?

On that note, any time Allison gets her Mommy Face on, I choke up. "You've made me a very proud woman, Honor Harrington." *sobs*

My husband, who Tom very much reminds me of, is much the same-- and I think Tom would appreciate my husband's hyperbolic "worst jobs ever": "lizard skinner in lizard-skin boot factory", and "President".

Ask not what your country will do for you, Thomas!
