Miranda and Farragut died in the Yawata Strike. Okay I get that. It is never clear where they were. To me anyway unless I missed it. Not in the Shuttle with Andrew. Not at Clarissa's party ?? OF all the characters to be written off this one was the most disappointing to me. I am new to this forum so my apologies if this has been discussed.

It isn't clear why Miranda made it to the location of Aunt Claire's birthday party ahead of everyone else. At least one section implied that Faith should have been with her. |

I agree it is one of the most disappointing. The both of them. It doesn't make sense to me either. Why have Miranda bonded if she was going to be killed. .

Long time ago RFC declared that it was just "War Porn", if only bad guys died. This is not the first bonded pair to suffer a loss: there was the pair in the nerve gas attack on the Torch throne room and Samantha's human in Honor Among Enemies. |

And why did Ned Stark have to die? Oh, wait, wrong universe, by a different slow writer. ![]() |

I see your point. Except Miranda dying took Farragut with her. I suppose the death was surprising as well as stunning because the author went to the trouble of having her bonded. I liked Miranda very much and was looking forward to her character and role being greatly expanded. When she became bonded, I thought that bond ensured her longevity in the series. OOPS. If the author was going to kill Miranda off, why have her bonded? .

If you think that is poignant, consider all those bonded cats who might otherwise have lived 2 centuries before Prolong was discovered, starting with Stephanie and her cat. I only remember text for two cats that did not die soon after the death of the bonded partner: Samantha and King Roger's cat (Monroe?). It might be kinder to the cat if they do die together. |

Die together in the case of a bond, yes. But it would have been even kinder to Farragut if the bond had not taken place, since Miranda was already slated for termination by the hand of the author, err, god. .

Miranda was pre-Prolong, no matter what she was going to die long before the expected end for Farragut's life. So is it really kinder, if Farragut never experienced the intense togetherness offered by the bond? Should people never fall in love, because there is a chance one will die before the other? |
