1) Who is GRRM?
and
2A) Do we know how this impacts the question ofo WHEN the next book will be published?
Thanks!

As stated by jontom, GRRM is George R. R. Martin. Back during Clinton administration, Martin started a series of big fat fantasy novels: 1) Game of Thrones (1996) 2) A Clash of Kings (1998) 3) A Storm of Swords (2000) 4) A Feast for Crows (2005) 5) A Dance with Dragons (2011) a 6th title (The Winds of Winter) has been promised for years, but has not appeared. Of course, he was distracted by a successful TV series (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_of_Thrones), but that concluded 5 years ago. ----------------------------

Why are people referring to David Weber as RFC?
I doubt very much Safehold will be finished. Honorverse not finished. Dahak series not finished. Multiverse stories not finished. Out of the Dark I also doubt will be finished. The most progress seems to be on Gordian Division novels which I started but quit soon because I felt not up to Weber standards. |

Way back, I noticed that among the posters there was one titled "Runs for Celery", who seemed very literate and well informed. When he posted in the first tense I provisionally outed him as DW.
Turned out I was right, and he was promoted to First Space Lord. Doesn't visit as often as he used to, or as we would like, but still revered.

Part of the problem would be that the recent storms demolished His Celeryness' office. Which may slow things down.

Well, that sucks. If it's not one thing it's another.

The odd thing is; we haven't had any hurricanes that really hit "odd" places; just locations where it's not unusual for one to show up. And "hurricane proofing" isn't all that difficult; it just requires a fair amount of capital investment. Something I wouldn't expect to be beyond the means of an author with such popular series and so many books sold and still selling. My house has weathered Cat 1; 2; 3; 4; and 5 hurricanes just fine - never had to make even *minor* repairs - and it was built in the 1960's. *Before* all the changes (improvements?) in the building codes that have been made since Andrew. What a strange thing to say. Helene did hit ‘odd’ places - parts of South Carolina that never normally get hurricane force winds. By the time hurricanes hit Greenville and environs, they’re normally down to ‘tropical storm’. Why would you spend money hurricane proofing in an area that normally only needs storm proofing? |

My house is about 90 years old in an area that rarely gets severe weather. Being handy I have done quite a bit during the 50+ years I've owned it and it's much stronger than it once was.
However I haven't had it professionally assessed and reinforced even though I could easily afford it. Without courting controvesy it is clear that the climate has been changing during my more than 3/4 century, with more frequent and more violent severe weather events. Apart from thoughtful renovations my response is to have good insurance and a strong "safe room". Thus my office, where I'm writing this could succumb. What a strange thing to say. Hopefully all of his work had backups in the cloud.
So, since Through Fiery Trails has been published, I re-read the entire series from start to finish three times. Just finished my last re-read and I’d really like a new book. |
