When is the new Safehold going to be written?

It's been about a year for me, but I agree totally. Maybe it's a new thing, or just a coincidence, but I have 3 or 4 series that finished their last books as cliffhangers (even egregious cliffhanges) or just mild ones. I really want to find out what's going to happen with the Schuelerites after his visitation. Will it have the intended effect, or for that matter what effect are they really hoping for?

What kills me is that it's been announced several different times over the course of several years that the next solo novel will be Safehold. Which obviously didn't happen as RFC did "Toll of Honor" So who knows?

So does anybody have RFC’s schedule and what are the release dates?

Snippets from the next book would be awesome.

In your opinion, is the author's constant delay of the sequel due to a change in creative direction, or is he simply having trouble untangling the major "knots" of this series?

It could be both. Working on "knots", take a break and do other things, come back to the knots, etc.
Not the best way to write, but maybe writing other things helps spark ideas for where you are stuck.

Caveat, I'm just spit balling here.

Some years ago DW had a video interview in a few installments where among other things he discussed quite at length about Safehold including the next Safehold book and how it was mostly mapped, how it would end (I think he put it as very messy for Charis and our heroes) and that he had only a few decisions to make like if to have the Siddamark general who wins the election as Mussolini or Hitler etc; also I think he mentioned that this second Safehold series that started with TFT would be 4 books most likely, with possibly 3 too.

Since then lots of things happened (well documented on this forum) that had the author slow down a lot so afaik he is still catching up with the "easier" projects - eg collaborations - so imho that is the issue not that he tied himself into knots.

This being said, he did write Toll of Honor which I think wasn't really mentioned previously that much (a completely unnecessary book and one of his worst imho) while of course commercial imperatives have a say in which projects DW is prioritizing so who knows what is going on today after all these upheavals since that interview

He’s commented at cons and his FB page that health the last couple of years have slowed down his solo output, then the hurricane destroyed his office. Safehold is his only solo project that he’s working on.
