Already been there, done that and got the T-Shirt.

IMHO, Out of the Dark (Dracula saves humankind) and standalone Honorverse novel are waste of time.

To each their own.

Out of the Dark plays by the SFF rules. That is, if a non-Romanian author sets their book in Romania, Dracula WILL turn up by Act Three…

I get satisfaction from many angles.
Analysing every thing until I find obscure motives or connections.
Feeling superior because of locating logical fallacies.
Or just plain reading a damn good read from a born storyteller.

Much as I generally luv all of DWs writing, Out of the Dark seemed to me to be something written to pay off an unexpected bill.

JM Sterling wrote most of the Dies the Fire series because his publisher wanted him to, while he wanted to pursue the Island out of Time theme.
Both are good story lines. What I wouuld like is to have another author like Heinlein (in Friday) tie all of these together with 1632, Safehold and Honorverse and others. Possibly splice in Destroyerman by Anderson?
Hey, even include Drake, Niven, Turtledove and some others?

I don't know; but the "Dark" series mostly reminds me of "The Excalibur Alternative"; but not quite as good. David *lately* seems to get a bit too "caught up" in intricate details; rather than "grand sweeps". The problem is; it's sporatic. You go from a very detailed section to often one that glosses over something that came between to the point that it seems to be an actual discontinuity in the story line.

That said; I wish there had been a follow on book to The Excalibur Alternative that was more like the saga about the Bug War; with the actual confrontation between the Federation as a whole and the Empire.

Unfortunately; with how "thin" David has spread himself on all these *other* series; I guess it's not too likely.

The way things are going, The Winds of Safehold will be published posthumously many years from now, finished by a friend and collaborator working with the partial manuscript and all of David's notes.
