If this point has been made before, I missed it.

In any event, after rereading Book 2 I realized where I had met him before.

Literarily speaking, that is.

And why I expect him to do an imitation of a famous literary heroine.

Or the real-life person he resembles.

The literary heroine is Katniss Everdine, though two with one shot is...excessive.

Nonetheless I expect a scene in which he is standing out in the open, no AA coverage in sight, and a dragon stoops on him.

He dutifully draws both pistols and start shooting.

Aiming, of course, for the eyes, the one point that must be vulnerable. Even Lara Croft got this one right.

Suddenly, the dragon's wings collapse, it crashed to earth and rolls head over heels, coming to a stop a few inches in front of him.

Readers may recognize the original historical model for the Division-General.

I have no access to the authors or their devious plans, doubtless far more clever than mine.

Maybe he is based on "Prof" Woods.
Or Heinz Gudarian.
Or Sir Richard O'Connor.
Or Zhukov.

Back in 1720, there was an Indian Marathi General, Bajirao,
who was much admired by B L Montgomery.

I thought the bone-handled pistols were the giveaway.
But you offer other good choices. I shall have to read up on Bajirao.

Just last Christmas, a good movie about him came out:
BAJIRAO MASTANI: Love Story of a Warrior.
Be sure you get it with sub-titles in English,
unless you understand Hindi. :D
