Just in case people haven't noticed there is a Multiverse short story by Joelle Presby out as the March Free Story on Baen.com. It is about a sea portal that connects Sharona to Arcana and how the Cetaceans deal with it. I won't say more then that but if we have this we can hope that Multiverse 4 will be along at some point in the near future.

Can you please tell me where to find it? I’m not familiar with the Baen website and couldn’t find the story.

Go to Baen.com and scroll down on the main page. It is down toward the bottom under Fiction Short Story.

A common mistake people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Nice little story. One wonders if the next novel is upcoming.

One hopes progress is being made.

That said, we learn quite a few things from the story:

1) Sharonan bureaucracy in its trans-species contact groups continues to be weird.

2) portals can form in oceans, and with very small exposed portions.

3) there is a very new portal directly from Sharona to Arcana, but it’s only big enough for an orca to squeeze through

4) the Great Whales are very very scary

5) so are the implications of Arcanan hydras and related creatures

I rather like the characters in this story and hope to see more of them. Also very interested in wondering if this portal is going to play a larger role in the story.

There is an implication, not sure if I’m reading it right, that new underwater portals are fairly common, enough so that dolphins go through them a lot. What do other readers than I think about that?
