Just like the ones in Lois Bujold's Vorkosigan stories. Of course he needs a lot more than 9, and they should all probably have a squad of Marines pretty much permanently assigned.
The first Auditor could be Elanora O'Casey. ----------------------- Don't open that!! It's the original can of worms! |

Once the traitors are identified, perhaps a graphic example could be made of such behavior by having a state dinner where Dogzard is allowed to enjoy? HB of CJ (old coot) Yumm, yumm. Yes it is food and yes he is allowed to eat it.

The trouble with the Imperial Auditor model is that you need an honest and concerned leader at the top. Imagine what some of the dictators would do with such proxies available.
You also need auditors who are honest and incorruptible. Too many times a honest leader will trust people under him who he should not have trusted. Although it would be interesting to see just what Roger would do whenever he found such a person. He has already had problems with that type Douglas Hvistendahl

Did not Roger cut a deal with some aliens for some help getting back to Earth and setting up his restaurant? If memory serves, (I think) were not the little lizard guy aliens mind readers? Maybe Roger needs to have some of them attend him in the times to come. Treecats are out.
Then he can employ them to identify out the traitors, stealers, crooks, thieves, cons, etc., then invite them to that "graphic example" state diner where Dogzard gets to have something to eat also ... in front of about 100 suspected bad people. Might have a sobering effect? HB of CJ (old coot) Cm. I imagine Roger and his sword will be employed to reduce Dogzards portions to manageable size? Or will Dogzard insist on using his own teeth and claws to just render off whatever he wants ... and when he wants it? |

Empaths, IIRC. They would still work. As to the other, Nimashet is being Roger's conscience, plus political considerations would likely dictate milder penalties. Roger is a barbarian type, but not a stupid one. Never read anything about self incrimination in the series, and just imagine trying to lie in the presence of someone who KNOWS when you are telling the truth. In the Honorverse, treecats plus careful questioning are leading to finding evidence, which can then be used. This would be a like situation. Douglas Hvistendahl

As for the Arms manufacturers, Roger needs to let the owners know that because of crappy arms being put out. That those owners (themselves) can and will be called out to do some testing of said arms. And if they get blown up, well maybe they’re replacements will do a better job!

During WWII there was a problem with parachute packing quality. For some reason or other, quality bounced up when a requirement for each packer to personally test a randomly selected chute from his work each day was implemented. YES Do this one To HB of CJ: Requiring those who have the authority to be responsible works. Given the importance of parachutes and other life critical matters, they just took strong measures. I hope some wordage is spent with great high intensity dialoge where Nimashet DOES act as Rogers sane half. Perhaps at that State Diner where the little guy alien mindreaders are in secret attendance, Roger has instant knowledge of a bad guy or guys lying to him about various rifle shortcomings. Like the things blowing up.
Will a graphic example be made? Actually I hope not. By now, we as readers know, Roger is quite capable of gross and extreme violence. Now that he is the Emperor, he must act in a more civil manner. But maybe Dogzard can still get to tear and render some fresh dead (edit: LIVE MEAT) meat as a graphic example of what COULD happen to the crooks and cons. And ... what Nimashet does not know about or learn may be a different thing. Perhaps have his own surviving friends and soldiers do a "private" or "secret" demonstration on just a couple of bad guys to greatly impress all the others? Like shoot the gun until it blows up in your face? Safe for others only. Last edited by HB of CJ on Fri Apr 15, 2016 3:10 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Why has this become such a mystery?? The person in authority is responsible for the actions of their subordinates. Too many freaking lawyers designing too many loopholes. Another name for loophole is noose... if you get to the top of the heap. Just my 2 ₡ worth
