Hello.

As I'm sure you all know, the 1632/Ring-of-Fire branch of the Assiti Shards stories has grown into an impressively massive collection of novels and anthologies. For that reason, many readers wish to know the order in which the various books should be read. To help them, Eric Flint has posted such a reading order on hie official home page at

http://www.ericflint.net/index.php/1632-series-reading-order/

In his latest update, January 21, 2016, he also included a flowchart to illustrate his recommended reading order.

While I liked the flowchart, I thought it didn't show the various story threads very well. So I decided to try to do better.

I created a flowchart of my own design, and posted a link to it in a reply in Eric's Reading Order thread. Eric said he liked it, and suggested a way to improve it. I took his advice and posted a link to the updated flowchart.

The flowchart shows the approximate chronological relationships of all the books, as well as which books are sequels of which other books. It includes all the novels and anthologies published by Baen to date, (except the e-zine volumes of Grantville Gazette) as well as a few that haven't been released yet. It also includes the fiction books published by Ring of Fire Press. There are also explanatory notes.

The flowchart can be downloaded at this address:

I hope all of you will find it helpful. Feel free to use it as you will, except, if you decide to publish it in some website, please publish it as is.

Mike

I have improved the flowchart, making it much more compact, and fixing an inconsistency. I recommend that this version be used, as it is more accurate (and prettier, in my opinion).

The updated flowchart can be downloaded here:

Also, the way I reorganized the flowchart allowed me to create a lower-resolution version that is still readable (1580 pixels wide, versus 2400 for the original). This version can be downloaded at:

This should be the last version I develop until after the release of 1636: Mission to the Mughals in April, 2017.

Hello, again.

By the way, about the upcoming books in the flowchart, here are the release dates I have been able to find so far:

2 Aug 2016 1636: The Chronicles of Dr. Gribbleflotz
6 Dec 2016 1635: The Wars for the Rhine
3 Jan 2017 1636: The Ottoman Onslaught
7 Feb 2017 1637: The Volga Rules

I'm sure you all are looking forward to these books' releases as anxiously as I am.

Cheers,

Mike

According to a post by Eric on Baen's Bar recently, 1637: The Volga Rules has not been placed on the publication schedule by Baen yet. Yes, Amazon is showing it with that date, but neither Eric nor the folks at Baen know why.

The one that has hit the schedule recently is 1636: Mission to the Mughals, a collaboration with Griffin Barber, scheduled for April 4, 2017.

Hi, David.

Thank you for the information. As you surmised, I got the date for 1637: The Volga Rules from Amazon. I'm sorry I got it wrong.

I am happy to hear that 1636: Mission to the Mughals is definitely coming out next April. Unfortunately, until I get a chance to read it, I can't figure out where it falls within my flowchart.

Thanks again,

Mike
