If you mean, were they "sovereign citizens" allied with other nutters (including in the US), then yes that is true.
They had six guns, three legal and three illegal. None semi auto though.
As an aside, I wonder as to how many claiming to be sovereign citizens have thought it through? In its purest form, it means an outlaw. With no assistance or protection from the organised government in the territory in which they live.

You are familiar with our debate over a assault ban... Do you have a similar discussion or are assault weapons allowed?

No semi auto long guns, let alone auto. You can get a semi auto pistol license, under very strict rules.
My near 100 year old SMLE 303, Bolt action with a ten round magazine is allowed, but only just.
At our gun buyback I handed in two Chinese rifles in 7.62 X 39 calibre. One was an SKS semi auto with a non detachable 10 round magazine. The other SKK was an AK47 clone, with a 30 round banana magazine, a foldable stock, and a full auto modification. Not really legal, but good for hunting razorback wild pigs in thick cover.

From a great distance there have been two news articles about US schools in our papers in the past couple of days.
First one was about yet another school massacre, and the usual push back against any gun control.
The other one was of a school principal being sacked because she allowed a picture of Michelangelo's David to be included in the resources for an arts class. Apparently promoting pornography.
If the more conservative Americans could only understand just how strange the combination is viewed around the world, they might be shocked.

I feel that I must point out that the first Colonists to settle in America included a surprisingly high percentage of Puritans who had fled the UK because we were too liberal/permissive for their delicate sensitivities.

Yep, America was settled by those who were too stiff-lipped and straight-laced for the United Kingdom and echoes of their outlook still reverberate through American society to this day.

Someone ring your doorbell by mistake? Shoot them!

A 6-yr-old girl runs after a basketball that rolls into your yard? Shoot her!

A cheerleader attempts to get into the wrong car by mistake? Shoot her!

A high school cheerleader pulls into the wrong yard looking for a party? Kill her!

What is wrong with America?

...and here in the UK, we've had an incident that would have been so much worse had the perpetrator had access to guns.
A certain man went on a rampage in Nottingham, killing three people via stabbing them, stealing a van and running over another three people before being captured.
Three fatalities and at least three injuries requiring hospitalisation.

If he had been able to procure a gun, it could have been so much worse given that guns are ranged whereas things like knives are point-blank-only.

When I first came on here the majority of the commentariat were ardent hard right "super patriots". Their stated stance was that the real reason for the second amendment was that citizens could depose an elected government by lethal armed force if they disagreed with its policies.
I was one of the few who pointed out that this was insurrection and highly unethical. Time and again I was verbally attacked for this, as not understanding the US mindset, and how the population in general would support such a move.
Well, the leader of the Proud Boys just got 22 years for planning 6 January, following several other sentences that were nearly as long.
No legions of militias armed with assault weapons have decended on Washington to overturn this, so maybe the US population doesn't hold that view overall.
