Yeah, all that pussyfooting around Ukraine has to stop. Ukraine, overwhelmingly, wants to be part of the EU, part of NATO, and be a modern liberal democracy; if that grinds Putin's gears, I say let them. And actually send material support to let Ukraine remain independent.
BTW, here's a nice little (~40 minute) video on recent history in the Ukraine and how things got where they are now. Highly recommended watching for people who aren't quite up to speed on the situation. |

One would think that someone who is so overwhelming superior in both numbers and equipment as Russia, in facing down a weaker state such as the Ukraine would at least try the old “carrot and stick” ploy! Show them the benefits they might accrue under the benign suzerainty of Russia!
But that’s Putin’s problem, isn’t it? He’s got nothing that will trump what “E” so aptly said:
Also that most of the pieces he need to reassemble his Humpty Dumpty are now safely under NATO’s umbrella. Hence the signs are now that he is resorting to a Russian version of the “carrot and Stick” ploy in picking off one of the few unaligned nations in Europe. The carrot: Submit and we won’t turn your country into a blood soaked battlefield! The stick: Submit or we will turn your country into a blood soaked battlefield! |

You really have to admire the sheer “moxie” of the Ukrainian people!
On the very day that various intelligence rapports warn of an invasion, what do they do? They turn it into a day of celebrating Unity!!! Ukrainian flags and banners everywhere, crowds gathering and singing patriotic songs. Besides giving the peoples spirit a boost. It’s at the same time giving Putin, and the 150,000 men he has encamped on the country’s border: a great big finger! |

Just heard of false flag operations. According to Russian media, there have been attacks by Ukrainian troops at multiple places along the border.
If anyone finds it plausible that Ukrainian troops would want to do that, I've got a bridge for sale. |

If you control the media you can dupe a lot of people into believing whatever you want. Case in point, Russian media which has consistently blamed Ukraine and the west for warmongering. --- Jack of all trades and destructive tinkerer. Anyone who have simple solutions for complex problems is a fool. |

Russia claims that America and the West are warmongering. I find myself wondering and the media are playing chicken little running around hollering, "the sky is falling" when it really isn't..... Don - When any group seeks political power in God's name, both religion and politics are instantly corrupted.

Straight out of the Joseph Goebbels; later Donald Trump, school of Propaganda: Tell a big enough lie, and keep repeating it, eventually it will be believed! Nothing new there! Soviet Russian; now just Russian, propagandists have been practicing it for decades!
The actions of around 150,000 troops plus armor and air support, currently surrounding the Ukraine on three sides, would tend to validate Western reactions. Especially when taken together with the increasingly belligerent and uncompromising demands coming out of the Kremlin. Especially that NATO disarm; and essentially abandon, their new members from Eastern and Central Europe. An action that would discredit and splinter the Alliance, something that has been a Russian wet dream since 1949. Be a stroke of supreme irony if on Sunday, when the Olympic flame is extinguished, so is peace in Europe!!! |

For weeks; if not months, there has been one consistency in the statements coming from Russian talking heads; politicians, diplomats and media. That was that come Sunday (today!) when the training maneuvers in Belarus were complete, the Russian participants would pack up and return to Russia and their bases.
Cynical opinions were that was doubtful! That they would either be a part of an incursion force, or that they would remain encamped where they were! The cynics won! But it does go to show; print video and sound bites, what “sincere” assurances coming out of Russia are worth! https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/uk ... 022-02-20/ |

Putting his nukes on alert, now that sucks really big time!!! Anyone see the similarity to another crazed “Furher” cowering in his bunker, willing to take anyone and everything down with him, rather then be forced to admit he screwed the pooch!!! |
