Russia, it has to be said, is fundamentally too screwed up to actually run advanced weapons development. Sure, they have shiny projects like the Su-57 and the T-14 that they like to parade around, but these are not actually available in any meaningful number.
Why? Because Russia is a kleptocracy. It is fundamentally built on extraction industries, and not much else. Within the russian state, the center of power is

If you absolutely want to worry about super missiles coming to kill the carriers, well.... look more towards the chinese efforts in this area. They, after all, do see US carrier task groups as actual threats.

It reminds me of something from one of solzhenitsyn's books [First Circle maybe] some project for Stalin that was all smoke and mirrors.

Somewhat like when they went into Iraq seeking WMD, like poison gas and such. They knew that the Iraqis had had them, as they had been supplied some by Rumsfeld in a previous role during the Iran war.
However years later they no longer existed, as you need a technological society to maintain them.

Their Kinzhal missile is essentially an air-launched Iskander ballistic missile. Pretty much every ballistic missile anywhere in service is, by that definition, a hypersonic weapon.

What I enjoyed reading is that Ukraine now has a lot more TR80 tanks than they started with.
