OK If You governed one of the planets that were on the Buccaneer list or feel you are as vulnerable to that treatment.

Your populace and space industries are screaming about the need for "a realistic SDF"

I am not talking about Verge states with broken economies here but the more successful ones on the edges of the SL.

You might join the GA but your population is not really that convinced as to who is really right - Green Pines and the invasion of Mesa really taints local opinion.

Bolthole / GA new production is not available since it's members first.

Erewhon is clearly happy to sell its tech; as it's doing to Maya. Though their production schedule is probably pretty committed to fulling their existing domestic and foreign orders. But that gets you the lite version of GA/Mantie tech without trying to buy from the GA itself.

If you're not willing to go there then Technodyne would presumably be happy to sell you as many of their latest Cataphract pods as you'd like. That would at least provide some system defense while you figured out how to build or acquire whatever level of SDF you feel necessary to compliment the fixed pod-based defenses.

Buying Technodyne w Cataphract pods and both the initial missile and reloads is only one piece of the logistics. You need to create the control/monitoring and maintenance systems and equipment to work with them....which, of course Technodyne would be happy to sell ....but only if the League doesn't put the squash on that because of contracts and rights (either from restrictive sales agreements or the parts of the C&C systems actually developed by SLN.

For League Member systems, it will end up being part of what goes on in the League Government recreation and various (and legitimate) security concerns. It doesn't really matter that the GA- in the person of Harrington and her fleet- has for most practical purposes "captured" or received under the Harrington Demands- gotten everything Technodyne had passed to SLN including plans, software, designed, reports etc. What the GA is very unlikely to do is start handing out either top of the tech lines SLN captured materials and plans or even the plans of the last refit of the current SLN BCs etc. That the GA effectively turns over to various former OFS systems the captured SLN/FF ships (and facilities, supply dumps, repair yards, documentation etc is a differnt story. Well, it can be argued that the former OFS systems have already essentially "paid" for all this stuff and that letting them have a running start at their own self defence in what could be considered - if not just poor area- also areas that are dangerous and what made those systems attractive targets for OFS still makes them attractive targets for a lot of other people. Mostly the question is can they handle what they now have in the manner of Torch with what it got from various sources and both expand their own citizen spacers into the start of a SDF and build out to handle more than just a couple of DD. And get organized in the infrastruteur to do it training people and giving them the experience they will need.

We shall see.

I'd concur with going to Erewhon, but if you're a Buccaneer victim you're not likely buying Technodyne.

First major reason, Technodyne may not want to sell to you. You're almost certainly finished leaving the League, or you're well into the process. You'd be limited to buying the downgraded export versions of any TIY tech which would be at best the Indefatiguable/Nevada grade ships which just got proven to be absolute crap. You probably don't qualify for Cataphracts if you're not an active League, or BOSS member.

Second major reason, it was mostly Technodyne tech that was part of what just messed up your defenseless system, I can't imagine many people wanting to pay the company that was behind the munitions that were just used to attack you once.

So I'm thinking any of the victims will either buy Erewhon, or look at Manticore directly, who will be quick to offer their own version of export versions. After all, Manticore felt slightly guilty over those who got whacked by Buccaneer, but while in a state of war they literally couldn't have protected those systems anyway. And Hypatia nearly proved that even if they'd tried, they couldn't (at the time) guarantee safety either.

Now with the war over, the victims can buy Manticore-lite, or Erewhon tech which itself is Manticore-lite², and feel reasonably secure.

I feel that Manti-lite from Erewhon is the way to go as well, but as others have noted getting it in any sort of time frame is unlikely to happen soon.

It's said in the books that most of the core systems have little, if no, SDF. But they do have significant, read centuries of developmental time, industrial capacity. The real answer is probably to try to get a hold of just a few Manti-lite ships for the time being and develop your own SDF to meet your local needs.

Some of those needs are just to keep interested pirates out of your system, but other needs may be more serious, such as keeping the neighboring star system that's had an on going grudge for a century from coming calling with their SDF.

I'd imagine that the sort of set up of the Mycroft would be relatively easy for the industrialized systems to set up. Almost certainly not as effective as Mycroft etcetera, but for an effective defense against regional problems likely to do the job and able to be set up quickly until such time as you've stood up an SDF.
