The NY Times info is probably old, I googled Peter Sands and he wrote the script for the attempt several years ago.

Evergreen Productions? or Manticore Productions?

Is the script a shooting script? If not, they can't even do an estimate of production costs.

I do not see a Producer, only a co-Producer. In movies (as opposed to TV) the Executive Producers are little more than minders for the folks who put up the money or who get credit and sometimes money for doing certain tasks. The Producer does all the real work. So who is/are the money people?

One good thing is that there is someone in charge of casting-a real casting director who has done and is doing all kinds of work in that job including the current Hobbit films. And there is a production designer. A tiny ray of hope.

Yeah, it looks like any of a number of blue-sky movies - the Production Designer and Screenwriter are both people who come on board very early in the game - at the "can we make this movie" rather than the "let's make this movie" stage, and Executive Producer is about as meaningful a title as Former-President - the Co-Producer is mildly promising - they'll actually do real work on the movie rather than just kicking ideas around, and, yeah, the casting director is always a promising sign - once you recruit someone whose only job is to recruit more people for the project, you expect things to build up pretty quickly...

If not cast as of today then probably no way it releases in 2014. Getting these things lined up happens all the time but doesn't really mean anything since no serious cash is spent to get it up. When they sign up George Clooney's current girlfriend (Stacy something?) to play honor then I will get excited.

Hi all,

Had the following comment over on Baen's Bar:

dreamrider wrote:
The 2014 date was only ever a wildly optimistic estimate date given IMDB for the initial listing - closer to TWO years ago. It may even have just been a swag put on by the IMDB staff, not really based on any info from the production team.

At the time David signed the contract, when he informed fans in a Bar posting that the movie project was "real" now, shortly before there WAS any IMDB listing, David estimated about 5 (five; V; 12345) years to release, if everything went smoothly. Even then, that would have made release more like sometime in 2016.

Folks, with no updates to IMDB in 2 years, and no industry scuttlebutt on casting, shooting, etc., and none but the sketchiest indications of progress from Himself over that time, don't look for release of this film before 2017. It certainly isn't happening in 2014...and it never was.

A typical mid-budget theater release film is roughly a year from draft screenplay/earliest casting/staffing to completion of shooting, and roughly a year from end of shooting to release. If they have funding and a distribution deal. Serenity was about 18 months, but Joss knew basically exactly what he wanted to do once he had a deal lined up, and he kept the major sets in storage and kept the cast on option. Heck, John Carter was something like 8 years in post-production status, wasn't it?

So everyone just take a deep breath, and hold it until 2017, or until there is some actual news. And think of some probing questions to ask the producer at Honorcon.

BTW - The Manticore Company L.L.C. is one of DAVID's business entities. It is how he manages the licencing of Honorverse derivative products. Check the back of your Ad Astra game products from 10 years ago. It doesn't really mean anything (for us) in relation to progress on the (latest) movie project, except David has a contract.

The following by Tom Pope on Baen's Bar may clear matters:

Image tpope wrote:
All of the information on IMDB was related to the old production company, run by Chris Roensch (not David Roensch as listed) and encompassing both The Manticore Company and Echo Valley Entertainment at the time. Also please note that The Manticore Company is not one of David's business entities, it was created as part of that agreement and is now out of the picture as it were. Dangling references still exist on old printings of Ad Astra material and such, but that's it as far as I am aware.

Evergreen Productions, the company David tweeted about, will be coming to Honorcon in November and will be speaking more about the status of the project:
http://honorcon.org/guests/media-special-guest

As I have more information that I can share, I will post it here. [Baen's Bar]
