MSNBC segment about Bloomberg's wealth and how he could have given it away.
For those who would prefer to not click the link, US Left-wing Activist Mekita Rivas posted on Twitter (the actual post is now protected, so only specific individuals can view it) that Bloomberg spent $500 million on ads for his Presidential bid, the population of the USA is 327 million, therefore he could have given everyone a million dollars each and have money left over. Ummm, if he'd split the 500 mill, it would have been $1.56 per person. That's a cup of coffee (or tea... or hot chocolate etc etc). To add to the pile of math-crap, MSNBC interviewed NYT columnist Mara Gay who brought up the tweet and agreed with it. No-one on MSNBC pointed out the maths problem. If this is the state of maths in America, then Trump will still be in power in 2040 as no-one in America will be able to work out mathematically that he had served his eight years. ~~~~~~

It isn't an American math disability. It is a liberal math disability. This is why I helpfully remind Democrats to vote on Wednesday. |

Nothing new, frankly; your barely was able to evade something like that in late 1950s, and only thanks to USSR:
https://b.radikal.ru/b28/2003/3b/50ec496a1eef.jpg Sputnik opened quite a lot of eyes in 1957 about the dismal state of American education. Massive ans immense measures were undertaken to improve the quality and access to education in USA after that. Seems that you need another reminder, that no supernatural power would bat an eyelid, if glorious city on the hill would be turned into ashes by superior weapon of more intellectual adversary... ------------------------------

For those interested, the independent liberal-leaning reporter/commentator Tim Pool recently did a segment on some of the issues American Education has.
Tim and guest Corey DeAngelis, PhD, adjunct scholar at Cato Institute’s Center for Educational Freedom and Director of School Choice at the Reason Foundation, begin the conversation about school choice and diverse kinds of monopolies in modern governmental rule. ~~~~~~

Actually quality of education in both Chicago and America as a whole vary pretty dramatically both in the 1950s and now. It tends to get better as the economic quality of the community the schools are in improves. The US certainly suffered a setback when it allowed the National Education Association to implement conversation to metric. Tens of millions of kids were tortured by teachers who fixated on how to convert feet to meters, pounds to kilograms, and gallons to liters. Few kids were allowed to explore the elegant simplicity of converting millimeters or centimeters to meters or kilometers, milliliters to liters or cubic meters. Even fewer were encouraged to understand that one liter of water masses a kilogram and, one cubic meter of water masses a metric ton. It is far easier to perform technical calculations when one is able to think in metric units rather than the archaic imperial system. Of course thanks to the disruption after the implosion of the Soviet Union, Russia's youngest cohort of well educated scientists and engineers will be dying within the next decade. |

There's the old joke about the British that they are slowly switching over to the metric system, inch by inch... I guess it's applicable to the USA also. --- Jack of all trades and destructive tinkerer. Anyone who have simple solutions for complex problems is a fool. |

Unfortunately, converting feet to meters would have to be part of any transition. Back in my day we had to do it with a slide rule. No internet to look it up. I do hope kids are being taught to deal with metric. It would be a travesty if they weren't. Americans are converting to the Metric system millimeter by millimeter. Exactly. Sweden is essentially metric. You might understand what a mile or a pound or what a foot is when traveling to unit disadvantaged countries such as Great Britain or America, but you have not wasted class time learning the system. |
