IIRC, Weber has mentioned that Honorverse ships use aneutronic fusion reactions that consume Beryllium or Boron.

Of course it would be far more plausible to burn Deuterium rathan than normal Hydrogen.[/quote]

When was that change? there are dozens of references to hydrogen fuel in the books.

I pointed out many years ago that you get much more efficiency storing is as water. But that isn't what David has done, he’s used liquid hydrogen. Honorverse fusion reactors are dense and hot enough that you don't need to use deuterium, regular H will fuse.

Since we're going to dream, we should dream of the most efficient aneutronic fusion, which is ²D + ³He. See Aneutronic fusion (Wikipedia). Or, better yet, just like the Sun, a proton-proton chain.

Any time you fuel a fusion reactor with a mixture of fuels that include Deuterium, you are going to get side band reactions that emit neutrons.

Those Bussard ramships that could accellerate at one gee for decades that I grew up reading about are fantasy. You need some type of direct matter to energy conversion to power them.
