I did the research; Now you help me get the word out (BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!!!)

The World’s Largest Oil Reserves By Country
Proven oil reserves are those that have a reasonable certainty of being recoverable under existing economic and political conditions, with existing technology.
10. United States - 39,230 million barrels
9. Libya - 48,363 million barrels
8. Russia - 80,000 million barrels
7. United Arab Emirates - 97,800 million barrels
6. Kuwait - 101,500 million barrels
5. Iraq - 142,503 million barrels
4. Iran - 158,400 million barrels
3. Canada - 169,709 million barrels
2. Saudi Arabia - 266,455 million barrels
1. Venezuela - 300,878 million barrels
https://www.worldatlas.com/articles/the ... untry.html

the above adds up to---- 1,304,838 million barrels

The total worldwide oil consumption was 93 million barrels per day (bbl/day) on average in 2015 according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_c ... onsumption

93 million a day X 356 days = 33,945 a year
1304838/33945 = 38 years then it's all gone!!!!

Help us create a future for our children NOW!!!

Proven reserves is exactly what it says.

Known reserves verified to be economically recoverable.

IIRC, 38 years ago the proven reserves was less than 20 years supply and global consumption was about half the current rate.

There was much wailing and nashing of teeth, even shitting of pants.

The fact remains that oil is a finite resource and we're burning it up at a ferocious rate. It WILL run out.

The deadline is not when the oil actually runs out, though. Already the cost of extracting that oil is rising, and will only continue to increase. Not only the cost in dollars, but the cost in energy.

Each barrel of oil yields less net energy today, because more energy is spent obtaining it, and most of that energy is generated by burning oil. Eventually it will take a barrel of oil to get a barrel of oil. Long before we reach that point, oil will no longer be a viable energy source.

We need to be using that oil to obtain new energy sources, not more oil.

I hate stats because they can be so easily manipulated. I noticed that they did not put Israel on that list. That country is sitting on the largest oil field in the World. Why did the Trump administration approve the Israel's claim to the Golan Heights because their sitting on the largest oil field in the World. I begged, borrowed and scraped up $200,000 to invest in multiple oil companies that own the rights to drill their. Why? I know the oil and gas business. After Hurricane Harvey, I lost everything in the flood. I decided to invest to be rich and I know Oil and Gas. I have a pension that kicks in 15 years. The only downside is I could lose my entire investment due to politics/war and the depth at which the oil field is at. The depth really does not bother me but it's where the field is located and politics that scare me. I could see Russia rolling tanks in to occupy the Golan Heights and the Oil Field from Syria.

I absolutely agree.
That is why the US should not abandon coal so that we can use our natural gas from fraking for vehicle fuel.

We need to keep developing nuclear power with improved designs that can rely on passive cooling after shutdown. I recently read an article on a new start up by a shipyard that will offer modular nuclear power plants built on barges that are delivered fully assembled to the site. They propose using a liquid salt, Thorium fueled reactor. The most interesting feature is a freeze plug that automatically dumps the fuel into holding tanks if the reactor overheats. No emergency cooling pumps needed.

This is an excellent departure from the GE Boiling water reactors that failed so spectacularly at Fukushima. The control rods are inserted from the base of the reactor which resulted in recriticality incidents.

The absolute worst use for fossil fuels is to burn them. Even hydrogen is destroyed by burning -- although it can be easily be replaced by electrolysis.

I half agree.
There are many uses for fossil fuels, like as lubricants and as precursors in the plastic industry.
Not quite sure about what you mean by the hydrogen bit though. Outside of nuclear reactions matter can't be created or destroyed. So when you burn a litre of petrol the hydrogen goes from hydrocarbons to other compounds. Not destroyed, just in different compounds.
There is an interesting research project in my country at present. Using renewable energy to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. Then capture the hydrogen into ammonia, which is easier to store and transport than pure hydrogen.
Then at the other end the hydrogen is released to be used in fuel cells. You end up with an electric car that can be refueled in a couple of minutes.

"Destroyed" == "Not recyclable"

H2 isn't precicsely "recyclable", but it is easily split back into H2+O.

FYI: Gaseous H2 will power IC engines directly with few modifications. There's no need for corrosive ammonia or expensive fuel cells.

Unless China develops alternatives to fossil fuels, China is up feces stream without a propulsive device.
