"What if Safehold wasn't the Federations only forlorn effort?"

But it was. Some guy wrote as much, more than a thousand years after Merlin started upsetting applecarts in Charis.

I recall he was a Wylsynn and wrote for the Tellesberg University Press or something.

There is no problem so complex that it cannot be solved through the judicious application of high-power explosives.

I've often wondered if The Federation didn't unleash a last minute UP YOURS Gbaba plan.

I could see a bunch of AI run small ships sent out on ballistic courses till the Gbaba cant spot them and then they spread out to go find places to do Von Neuman machining themselves. when enough have been made they hit the Gbaba worlds Divine wind style. I'm certain that the gbaba will not like having several 100 if not thousands of small ships slamming into planets at 50% speed of light...

Well, the main problem was, probably, that Federation did not knew the locations of major Gbaba planets. Since they obviously did not anticipate the true size of Gbaba navy, it stand to reason to assume that they did not correctly assumed the size of Gbaba state also. And they didn't like the idea of planet-killing berserker-class machines, programmed to find their targets autonomously.

Oh well, if shortening the front is what the Germans crave,
Let's shorten it to very end - the length of Fuhrer's grave.

(Red Army lyrics from 1945)

The REAL problem is that the AUTHOR has said that there were no other efforts beyond Operation Breakaway. I quoted the textev for this in my post on page 7 of this thread.
