Yup, post Meiji restoration Japan or pre-RussoJapanese War Imperial Russia. Those are the options for a Desnair intent on protecting themselves from a vengeful but temporarily incapacitated Siddermark. Those nobles know Siddermark will recover and will have even more grievances to hold against Desnair. War with an industrial Siddermark is but a matter of time.

If steam automotives are excessive, replacing some of the roads with iron rails (steel may take a while) and iron rail wheels will allow a single draft dragon to pull far more material. Surely tehre are mines with mine carts on rails, so this proposal is not even radical.

The Inner Circle will be happy to hear that Desnair is acknowledging that it has no other choice but to adapt Charisian innovations despite its massive reluctance. That's been one of their goals for a while.

Yup. That will increase productivity. Nope, that's not enough industrial capacity to offset Siddermark's advantages. That fact is obvious and unavoidable to folks who truly believe they face an existential threat.

That's the cheap first step. If they aren't up to doing that (iron strips on top of teak rails perhaps come first) they are not about to build a steam automotive.

Agreed. Sounds like they would do that sort of thing immediately.

Was anyone surprised now that Harchong is involved in Killing off Archbishops?

My understanding is that is against the Writ?

What does it say for peoples beliefs when a conservative realm is casually killing off its own clergy?

What other laws of the Writ will be abandoned by those who claim to be the most orthodox?

I infer that this is normal Harchong politics. The decedent was not killed, he was assassinated, which happens.

Perhaps they need to support Temple loyalists in Western Siddermark.

Sending Loyalist carpetbaggers funded with Desnari gold? Yeah, that can slow things down. Once it was known those carpetbaggers were Desnari backed, their neighbors will burn them out. The local authorities will just look the their way.
