I've noticed that a bunch of the official 3050 designs like the Berserker and Grand Titan don't work. The Berserker needs 62 criticals, the Grand Titan 55.

Fix the Berserker by dumping the mask and replacing it with Triple Strength Myomers. Then switch from Endo steel to Standard chassis. Then Drop 6 extra Double heat sinks and Top up the armour, add some extra Anti Missile systems and CASE.!

Grand Titan fix is a bit more complicated You lose the Small pulse lasers (rear) both and the One Shot Streak SRM2 both. Endo Steel becomes standard You need to add left and right torso CASE.

I would further alter the Grand Titan with a weapons change.

Remove the Large Pulse Lasers Both and the LRM15.

Replace the Large Pulse Lasers with a pair of ER Large Lasers.

Replace the 400XL Engine with a Standard 300 Engine Add my Favourite Triple Strength Myomers and Top up the Armour and an AC20 and Ammo and CASE. AC20 has same Hit same Range as Large Pulse and with 4 tons of Ammo has a good duration. The SRM 6 pair can be kept or replaced with 4 Streak SRM 2 Packs. Medium Pulse Lasers Round everything out.

This offers a long range strike for one point more than the LRM 15. Up next It keeps the same range and hitting power, The SRM 6 is replaced with 2 Streak SRM 2's. While a SRM 6 Can hit harder if you hit, the Streak won't fire unless it hits. Thus preserving its ammo. The TSM 300 offers the same warm speed of the 400XL without its vulnerabilities. Upped armour and better hitting. Without the minimal ranges. Even Stronger and just as fast.

Did anyone else ever play the Cresent Hawks inception? Or adapt the Traveler rules in a Battle Tech environment? Playing the Character / Pilot beyond the Mech. (on paper or Computer)

Traveler rules work really good for outside Mech or in space combat. Some of the Star Wars or Gamma world also sort of work or even D'nD.

How do you figure that? Everything in the BRZ-A3 fits comfortably into the critical slots (there are even ten to spare; you need 23 crit slots for the weapons and equipment, 14 for the Endo Steel, which leaves 5 slots free, taking into account that one arm does not feature a hand. 23+14=37).

Now, the Grand Titan as presented in TRO 3055 is illegal, but luckily, there's TRO 3055 (revised) which makes the design legal again. (The differences between TRO 3055 and TRO 3055 Revised are a small armor reconfiguration, the removal of a few tons of ammo for the missiles and the removal of the One-shot SRM launchers)

Fix the Berserker by dumping the mask and replacing it with Triple Strength Myomers. Then switch from Endo steel to Standard chassis. Then Drop 6 extra Double heat sinks and Top up the armour, add some extra Anti Missile systems and CASE.!

No need to fix what isn't actually broken.

Grand Titan fix is a bit more complicated You lose the Small pulse lasers (rear) both and the One Shot Streak SRM2 both. Endo Steel becomes standard You need to add left and right torso CASE.

Again, no fix necessary.

E you forgot the 6 for the XL engine and the 18 for the 6 extra double heatsinks. 24+14+6+18=62 criticals.

The Grand Titan has 14 endo steel, 6 xl engine, 6 heatsinks, 29 for weapons. 14+6+6+29=55 criticals.

So how do either of these designs work?

3055 designs yes got that wrong.

The Behemoth can be an Inner sphere design.

100 ton Standard Chassis 10 tons
200 Standard engine 8.5 tons
2 jump jets 4 tons 4 criticals
Triple Strength Myomer 6 criticals
2/3/2
3/5/2
2 Gyros
3 Cockpit
12/24 Double heat sinks 2 tons 12 criticals
19 Standard Armour 304
2 ER Lasers 10 tons 4 criticals
2 Gauss Rifles 30 tons 14 criticals arm mounted no hand actuators
6 tons of Gauss Ammo (48) 6 criticals
2 Medium Pulse Laser 4 tons 2 criticals
Guardian ECM Suite 1.5 tons 2 criticals
100 tons 49 criticals

Berserker Record Sheet

Yes, I forgot the XL engine. That still leaves 4 crit slots. The design is fine.
I did not, however, forget the heat sinks: The construction rules state that an amount of heat sinks equal to the engine rating divided by 25 is "free"; they cost tonnage, but do not take up critical slots. The Berserker, with its 400XL engine, can thus mount 16 heat sinks without having to allocate crit slots for them. (Reference: Tech Manual, page 53)

Of the 48 slots available (due to the omission of the Hand on the left arm), the Berserker uses:
-16 for Weapons
-1 for Ammo
-7 for MASC and ECM
-14 for Endo Steel
-6 for an XL Engine
For a total of 44 slots, leaving 4 open.

The Grand Titan has 14 endo steel, 6 xl engine, 6 heatsinks, 29 for weapons. 14+6+6+29=55 criticals.

Grand Titan Record Sheet

Of the 47 critical slots available, the Grand Titan uses:
-16 slots for Weapons
-3 slots for Artemis FCS systems
-5 slots for Ammo
-14 slots for Endo Steel
-6 slots for the XL Engine
For a total of 44 slots, leaving 3 open.

So how do either of these designs work?

3055 designs yes got that wrong.

Pretty well? Assuming you're using the actual construction rules, of course.

Ahh well that makes more sense then. Of course now using smaller engines less than 250 rating mean you need to allocate heat sinks for your free 10.

The grand titan armour is wrong.

How so?

(As I pointed out earlier, TRO 3055 has been superceded by TRO 3055 Revised, which among other fixes, actually fixes the Grand Titan)
