For an opposition take on fake news

There are good points in there. No matter which political ideology we subscribe to, we are more likely to lend credence to news that fit our preconceptions; it is therefore vital that we check everything, especially the stuff that we agree with.

Indeed.... which leads us back to here: ;)

"We've tried to do similar things to liberals. It just has never worked, it never takes off. You'll get debunked within the first two comments and then the whole thing just kind of fizzles out.""

Apparently the North Carolina Democrats did this in the 1980s, so now the Republicans feel it is their turn.

As an aside - some of the things on the list are actually good ideas and should be passed globally for all future governors (not just the current one).

And quite a few are undoing changes that the GOP made a few years ago.

But 2-2 etc. bipartisen sounds good in theory. But makes you wonder about deadlocks.

As the Republican control of the House should have made clear, Republicans have no problem with government running in idle while Democrats are in control of the executive branch.

What's good for the goose apparently is not good for the gander.

Australia's high court recently ordered internet providers down here to block access to piratebay and other torrent sotes.
Which they have done.

Except for the free wifi at Parliment House in Canberra.

Got to let the pollue's download their movies it seems.

Apparently it took a full five minutes to establish a stable and secure workaround for the safeguards set by Telstra Bigpond (our largest provider).

The Australian senator who is currently before the court of disputed returns over his eligibility to run for the senate over a larcony conviction that was current at the time of nomination but was quashed after the election, has just been declared bankrupt and has to resign from the senate, assuming the court says he was eligible to run in the first place.

Thing is, if he was eligible to run then his party gets to replace him.
If he was ineligible then it's a recount with him removed.

That's now two senate seats in Australia in the same boat.

2016, the election that keeps on giving.

The Electoral Integrity Project has aparently found that North Carolina is no longer an actual democracy.

Personally, I was going to write the project off as weirdo left wing, but the project is a joint Uni Sydney and Harvard.

Uni Sydney isn't exactly left wing.
Never thought of Harvard as left either actually.

Just get a VPN, there´s even free ones.

However the real problem is the fact that "torrent" does not equate "illegal", yet they´re blocking sites based on that stupid kind of thinking.

The copyright mafia just needs to die horribly.

I´ve switched almost completely to buying new games from gog.com and similar, because they do not sell games crippled by copyright protection schemes so stupid that it´s easier to play using a pirated version of the game than by buying it.

Most amusingly, earlier this year here, part of the copyright mafia was going to start a campaign that would include a website and claim letters...

However, they set everything up, but forgot to actually register the name they were going to use for the website...

So guess what Bahnhof(major ISP that constantly keeps badgering authorities misusing rules) did? They registered the name and sent a claim letter to the copyright idiots for IP abuse.

The campaign was dropped and buried before it was even started.
