Regarding corsets, I'm recalling something my wife's English grandmother said, "Any gal wearing a corset can hold her breath longer than any Navy Seal can ever hope to!"

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

The Last Ship

"Anyone can hold the helm when the sea is calm. Being a leader is not about being perfect. It's about weathering the storm."

"Did you see the weapons those guys have?!"

"Relax, we're bringing a Navy ship to a gunfight."

From "Thor: The Dark World"

Thor: "Revelry can be as great a burden as battle."
Heimdall: "Then you are doing one of them incorrectly."

Why did God make women both pretty and foolish? He made them pretty so that men would love them. He made them foolish so they would love men.

I don't know if this has been posted so here goes:

From Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
Ford Prefect: "It's unpleasantly like being drunk."
Arthur Dent: "What's wrong with being drunk?"
Ford Prefect: "Ask a glass of water."

Couldn't find it on a search, but one that has stuck with me ever since I heard it in the movie:

from The Avengers:

LOKI: There are no men like me.

OLD MAN: There are always men like you.

What? Look, somebody's got to have some damn perspective around here! Boom. Sooner or later. BOOM! -LT. Cmdr. Susan Ivanova, Babylon 5

How about one from the old British TV series. The Avengers was so long ago many don't know about it. The continuing characters were John Steed and Emma Peel.

Idiot baddie: But I was in the Brigade! (meaning officer service in Her Majesty's Brigade of Guards, in other words very upper class.)

John Steed: Oh really? Boys', Fire or St Johns Ambulance? (I think you USians have similar organisations.)

Cheers
John
