One thing to point out fallsfromtrees: the speculation is the box of toys Sonja and Shannon would create to deal with MAN/Sollies would be incredible; imagine what they might engineer for ... other ... pursuits  Personally, I'm in the Shannon/Scotty camp, but I have to admit it might be fun to find out! Also, we have to find someone for Eloise ...

Other Must haves (at some point) ...

Honor, Nimitz, and Lester T. talking about the Terpes incident
Honor, Nimitz, and Shannon finally getting a chance to talk after all this time ....
Shannon needs to get adopted (I know, I know, treecats don't choose, it just happens ... but you have to think the memory songs from Nimitz on Shannon caring for him on the Tepes has to count for something, right?)
The conversation between Rafe and Haven One when Eloise first arrives at Trevor's Star (just re-read Mission of Honor -- that had to be a good one)

And a debate question ... who's got the worse meeting in store:
the potential suitor for Abigail (Mateo and Steadholder Owens) or Helen (Anton)? While I respect Mateo and the Steadholder ... Anton in Grim Mountain Dwarf mode regarding his daughter would be hilarious to read ....

Minor quibble: Nimitz can't share the memory of Shannon caring for him in a memory song, because he suffered damage to his telepathic transmitter when one of the State Security troopers hit his mid-pelvis with the butt of his pulse rifle. He can only share the information through treecat sign language and his empathetic sense (which was not affected).

As for potential suitors, you forgot that Queen Berry is Anton's adopted daughter. Although if she does go for Hugh Arai as a suitor, it brings up images of Grim Mountain Dwarf meeting Grim Mountain Giant.

No quibble ... I get used to character qualities and assumed (heh heh) that Honor would be doing the translating for Nimitz during any conversation. Throw in that Honor and Nimitz would've shared that story at least a couple times over in the intervening years, and Sam (I think) would have been able to "see" then song, Honor would be intimately familiar with his feelings. Still, the image of the three of them chatting w/ Nimitz signing from Shannon's lap while Honor translates would be very cool ....

As for your other point ... I've got $50 on the Grim Mountain Dwarf. Who's with me?

Sounds great, and be glad to give you the refurbish contract.

I want the contract on the HD sales.

No match at all. Queen Berry would step between them and tell them to knock it off - end of discussion.

Party pooper!!

Though you're probably right. And if Berry doesn't, Thandi might, at which point all of the popcorn, HD, and other sales prospects go right down to absolute zero. Nebber mind.

How about the POV from the master of the field, Lieutenant Castellaño, when Honor dueled Young?

Though wounded after diving to the side after Pavel Young's sneak attack, she still got off all of her kill shots with a dueling pistol before he got off one with a pulser.

Or better: One of Pavel's other "conquests" who came to watch the bastard get his long-overdue come-uppance at the hands of Dame Harrington. Mr. Maxwell mentioned he had negotiated a settlement with the North Hollows at one point regarding one of his clients; stands to reason there would have been other women in the same situation and with (arguably) similar feelings.

Talk about an opportunity to write some extremely raw, emotional, and pointed commentary on the Youngs from a non-Honor POV.

Something in the Pearls got me thinking on this one ... kinda morbid but an interesting thread nonetheless:

Janacek's reactions to Thunderbolt's successes, specifically Grendelsbane, and his view of the fall of the HR government.

We know he ultimately committed suicide (non-MA assisted, apparently), but reading his reactions to the unmitigated failure of his Admiralty would be fascinating. Was it one thing (Grendelsbane) that drove him to his demise? Was it the concussive shocks from all of Thunderbolt's successes? Or was it the dawning realization that he really was the idiot that everyone thought he was?

I think it was his realization that he had failed his Queen. I think he really did believe that he was acting in the best interests of the Kingdom when he built down the SD forces, since he considered them to be an invitation for the SEK to engage in the kind of expansionism that had led Haven to ruin, and that would lead to the cultural destruction of the SEK. In point of fact he was probably correct. The cultural matrix of the SEK has been forever changed by the transformation into the SEM - that fact that it was inevitable doesn't change the fact that the SEK as it was will never be again.
