I live in Viborg SD. We have a small hospital in a town of 850 people. In the event of an accident the first stop is the local hospital. In the event that the situation is beyond what the locals can cope with, the Helicoptor is summoned from Sioux Falls, about 20 minutes via chopper away to airlift the patient to Sanford Medical, a major trauma center. Further, we are not unique. Lots of small hospitals out here wait longer than that.
I do believe that this is known as a "two stage" system of treating trauma. Not different than what Weird Harold is proposing, I don't think. Don When any group seeks political power in God's name, both religion and politics are instantly corrupted.

I suspect that in a lot of cases they go direct to the trauma center. We get a lot of helicopters here, and they come mostly direct from the scene. Some come from other facilities, but the things a trauma patient needs that can't be done in an ambulance are blood and surgery. Blood without surgery is usually just temporizing. A small hospital can't get an emergency surgical team ready faster then a helicopter can fly them 20 minutes.

To my mind, if you want to do a real world analog. The RMN/GSN would be the equivalent of the USN/RN at the end of WWII. The RHN would be equal to mid WWII at about 1943. The SLN however would be at a technology level of 1900.
Here is the differences SLN USS IOWA commissioned 1896 Main guns 12in max range 12,000 yds Speed 17 kn Fire control spotting tops RMN USS IOWA commissioned 1943 Main guns 16in max range 42,000 yds Speed 33 kn Fire Control anolog computer with FC Radar |

I do happen to know that in crash and burn cases the primary role of our little hospital is to stablize in preparation for the trip to Sioux Falls. Don When any group seeks political power in God's name, both religion and politics are instantly corrupted.

Why do you keep insisting that crewing and moving an SD from paroled POWs, providing officers and gaolers for them, is going to be faster than just taking out the equipment and transporting them to a planet for installation? Remember Khumalo's flagship is an old design. It has a lot of capable Manticoran crewmen capable of removing the said equipment from those SDs. Since it's just floating around in Spindle, I'm quite sure it can spare half a dozen or so teams to perform the disassembly and packaging. I have 3 trivial steps. Removal, transport and installation of said equipment. None of my steps require more than 2 dozen people per set of equipment per SD. Yours on the other hand requires a lot of manpower. From officers for the skeleton crew to gaolers for the POWs. For old style SDs, that would mean at least a hundred people per SD if not more. None of the steps in this is trivial at all. Parole, treecat, detaching guards, detaching officers who could be doing other important duty, supplying the ships, feeding your crew etc. |

Duh! Because the premise of the thread is "what do you do with the captured ships other than salvage and scrap?" Your solution is, "salvage and scrap." .

In that case, the thread should be locked, because aside from salvage and scrap (and targets), there's *nothing* else that Sollie SDs are good for. =================

By that logic, most of the threads in these forums should be locked because almost nothing suggested is practical or even possible. ![]() .

lol! you don't need to insist that your suggestion is easier to do than the alternatives that have been pointed out. you keep saying that the alternatives are inferior to your hospital ship idea instead of simply admitting that it's far from being the best investment of resources but according to the title we have to use the whole SD. |
