I was away at college far from my library and the only book store was the campus book store that carried diddley squat.

Given the increasing cost effectiveness of CGI, I also see the potential of far more classic Sci Fi novels becoming movies as an alternative to Hollywood squandering $$$$ to make their own schlock. To be blunt, I would never read Star Trek or Star Wars books unless I was EXTREMELY desperate.

My list of hoped for movies include Ringworld and The Mote In God's Eye.

I didn't think that even in desperation you would sink that low, nameless. I avoid that section of the Sci-Fi aisle at the local bookstores. If I get that needy, I go back to something I read ten or more years ago. Of course, I have the advantage of having a couple of extra rooms to turn into libraries, so I have plenty of shelf space.

No big name actors, unknowns who are competent and willing to work cheap, like most starving actors. Everyone young but looking older so that they can be kept young for as long as possible. I would presume this will not be a huge budget movie, more along the lines of Serenity and not a Water World.

Although with make up and surgical options even older people are now still 23 even in their 40's.

Cindy Crawford, Demi Moore, Catherine Murray...

Although if the cast were used to shoot three or four movies worth of scenes at one time then the movies released every two years no aging would occur. I still don't know why this doesn't happen more often.

Nice to see this level of activity....thanks for the fun welcome ;o)

I, as well, would have to be incredibly desperate to READ a star wars or star trek BOOK....lol. And yes, I loved all of Hubbard's sci fi....sorry...

I like the idea of Stewart.....do I invite a public stoning by suggesting Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) for Hamish? *ducks*

I also like the idea of unknowns....look at the latest 2 star trek movies....all fresh actors and I for one think they did a HECK of a great job.

Additionally......the Ringworld series would indeed provide an awesome basis for a new series of movies....

Lastly....does the Boss Man (Weber) ever show up here?

A great many people like the idea of unknown actors for this movie. There are a great many actors out there with ability and a history in TV. Perhaps some of them would like a chance at a feature film.

As far as Mr. Weber goes, he posts in this forum under the name runsforcelery. At the current time, he has been concentrating on the Safehold forum, as his next book out is Like a Mighty Army in that series. If you see a reference to RFC or MWW, that is to or about or from him. One of the neat things about these forums is that on occasion he shows up to discuss his latest work or add to the previous one(s) by answering questions posed by the readers. He also has on occasion shared the basis for his writing decisions and discussed various bits of history. It is one of the nicer things about this forum.

If more then a few people on this board know who an actor or actress is without looking them up on google they are not affordable.

I don't know that we know that for certain. RFC was talking about having to expand the roles of some characters who have bit parts in the book but a more substantial role later in the series so they could justify the cost of hiring the kinds of actors they wanted for them. I don't know that we're necessarily looking at a low-budget film here.

I am still lobbying for a tall east asian/ anglo expert martial arts female who can also act to play Honor. This is not so much for the actual fight scenes as because experts in MA move differently, hold themselves differently, react differently, than non-MA persons do. It would add a subliminal cred to her in every scene. One a non MA actress cannot fake.

And I would drill all actors playing military personnel until they move and interact like the real deal. Every bit of real you can reasonably get into these movies will help sell the whole thing enormously.

Heck, go recruit from real vets to play military persons. Navy for navy, Marines for marines, etcetera. And line some of them up for tech sadvisors also. Get real much as possible. :D

Don't forget that when we MA persons get good enough that we no longer have to try to fight or even stay fighting fit. Plus once the arthritis kicks in after 30+ years of injury we just hobble around as best we can.

Also there are no experts, there are just people who are good.

Good actors don't need to know how to fight, they just pretend.

I recently discovered this series and am 2 books from the end....family pissed at me, etc ...lol...Love it!!

As to the movie announcement...I honestly see potential in this similar to star wars or star trek assuming it's executed well.....I also see the possibility for a complete flop if it follows the example of Battlefield Earth, for example....my favorite book of all time anhd an absolutely abysmal movie.

Anyone have ideas for Honor? I just hope to god they don't even CONSIDER Angelina Jolie...pleeeaase!!

Thanks for your time...I look forward to this site ;o)

You are in luck. Jolie's child collecting some years back had some political fallout which seriously complicated the Weber's adoption efforts. As a result, her name is a 4 letter word in the Weber household, and the chances she will star as Honor are about the same as mine. (Myself being a 195 cm, 115 kg, bearded Irishman, I at least have the height to play her.)

RFC said "refitting a Beowulfan SD to Manticoran standards would be just as difficult as refitting a standard SLN SD to those standards. In other words, it would be cheaper and faster to build new ships."

Agreed. as a black belt, I find myself moving quite a bit differently to how i did before i took up aikido. You also find yourself looking at the world in a new way.
