Charrow explains to Bahzell and Brandark how other champions in the past tried to run away. I wondered: Why would they run? Okay, some champions weren't part of the order before they became Tomanak's own and some didn't know anything about the order, like Bahzell, but Tomanak chose them, because they are brave and all.
Why would they run? How would the order bring them back, as Charrow promised they could and would? And when do they know a champion fled? Bahzell is at the lands of the Sothoi pretty much without help of the order. So, couldn't any champion flee by telling the order that he or she follows his very own quest? |

Eden To give you an idea of why a champion might run I will quote Charrow and Bahzell. Charrow said, "The entire purpose of the Order is to support your work in the world." He then went on to say and I quote "As He commands you, so you may command us any of us for we were created as you sheild arm, and however high you fly in His service, wherever you may go under His command, there we will be also." Bahzell reacted by saying "Here now! Himself was never after saying all that! I've no mind to command any man to follow me no nor, to fight my battles for me, either!" What Bahzall was saying in other words was I don't want to tell anyone he or she had to follow me and that I won't shrink from my duty to Tomanak by asking for help when Tomanak wanted me to do something myself. Now about how the order would find a champion who tried to run you must remember that all the gods can see all of reallity and that means there is no where to hide from Tomanak and that jus becuse someone isn't a champion doean't mean Tomanak can't get a message to him or her. Even if Tomanak doesn't gives them a message saying this where the run away champion is hiding there are motal ways finding people. With the mage relays iit would probably only a matter of days to have every chapter of the order on alert to find the run away. The champion might get a head start on the order which is when Tomanak would get involved in his own way of course. |

I understand, but I wondered why Tomanak would promote someone who shrinks away from his duty. Especially if most champions are from the order itself, I would guess these people are aware that being a champions means comanding the members.

Remember that Tomanak doesn't always explain that he has an Order in the first place. When the champion in question finds out that Tomanak has an Order and before the Order can explain that the champion is a senior member of the Order the champion may say okay that's nice I will go now to do my work for Tomanak while you do your work for Him. Have a nice day. Not realizing that a part of his or her duty to Tomanak is to serve as a senior member of the order. Now what happened in Bahzell' case was that Bahzell thought the Order would try to take control and do his work for him instead of simple being someone helping him. So, if another champion felt the same way only more strongly they would run to prevent the order from doing that in the first place.

Jay, I think you misunderstood Bahzell's concern.
He didn't think the Order would try to 'take over'. He didn't like the idea of people being killed while helping him doing his job. He was willing to risk death doing his duty. He didn't like the idea of risking other people's lives. He also had doubts about his own judgment concerning leading people into danger. Remember his converation with Tomanak about a champion *misusing* his authority over the Order. Bahzell was concerned about *him* misusing his authority over the Order.

Drakbibliophile I assume you were reffering to the talk Bahzell and Toomanak had while Vaijion listen to them. In that talk Bahzell concern was ideed was as you say was his fear that he would misuse his power as a senior memeber of the Order. However, when Charrow explained that where ever a champion goes the Order would be there to help them Bahzell didn't say I don't think I can handle that sort of authority. He said will not have someone fight his battles for him. He did say that he didn't want to command anyone to follow him at that time. And when he had that talk with Tomanak we found out why which was as we agree was due to fear of him misusing his power over the Order. It wasn't until his little talk with Tomanak that Bahzell realized that he had that authority. I will also say that the way David wrote the scene in Charrow's library should've made it clear to Bahzell that he would be in charge of any work he and the Order did, but the talk he and Tomanak had showed he didn't understand that little fact. I must ask how did come up with that username Drakbibliophile |
