The two moments I want to see in the next book are as follows:

Poor Grand Vicar Tymythy Rhobair getting a semophore message from the Episcopate of Schueler saying “psst! Guess what! Schueler just called Chihiro a dirty rotten liar!” I’ve got nothing against the poor Grand Vicar, but the expression on his face is going to be some variation of “Oh Sh-“

If it turns out Cayleb and the inner circle are blindsided, too, then I want to see their faces, too.

It would be fun if the two events happen more or less simultaneously- the Grand Vicar gets a semaphore message and the IC picks up what is happening on the snarc, and we can get their reaction side-by-side.

What moments do you want to see?

Not just the Grand Vicar. The entire CoGA will be in a tizzy. Chihiro lied? Shan Wei was an innocent victim, simply trying to do the job God gave her, and got destroyed when she refused to depart from His plan?

The idea that Shan Wei wasn't the embodiment of evil and the Safehold analogue of Satan will be an even nastier shock than Chihiro being accused of lying.
If it turns out Cayleb and the inner circle are blindsided, too, then I want to see their faces, too.
If this wasn't a sneaky high tech IC trick and that really was Schueler, they will be.

RFC mentioned the Testimony of Schueler coming up at a con, and said the original reaction of the Church of Charis would be "We have no idea what to think! We know nothing about this, and will reserve comment until we actually know something!", but that would change to "There might be something to this..."

It would be fun if the two events happen more or less simultaneously- the Grand Vicar gets a semaphore message and the IC picks up what is happening on the snarc, and we can get their reaction side-by-side.
Since the IC has cut back on snarcs after the end of the Jihad, I don't think that had any eyes close enough to pick this up (assuming any remote sensors would detect what happened inside the cathedral) . The Temple will be informed by semaphore as soon as the Archbishop regains enough composure to draft a note, and I can see Schueler's book being transported immediately back to the Temple with a heavy AOG escort so the Vicarate can see it in person.

I'm not sure when the IC will find out, but their reaction is likely to have classic moments too.

I'd love to see a scene where Lord Protector Hygyns finds out the truth about his "good friends" who got him elected, but it may be too early for that.

It's definitely too early for the other scene I'd love, which is Spring Flower getting what's coming to him.

However, what are the odds that Desnair will start pushing Showail and/or Shallys to copy Charis' airships for them, now that it's been demonstrated that they have military usage? That could make for a very nice boom, especially since neither of them are anywhere near as safety-minded as Delthak.

Agreed. And assume he'd be heavily resistant to the idea he got conned and didn't know as much as he thought he did.

I think Siddarmark has to get worse before it gets better, and a meltdown of Siddarmark's government and separation of Siddarmark into various independent entities like what is happening in Harchong is a distinct possibility. (For instance, given their history during the Jihad, I don't see Glacierheart having much patience with "It's all Charis's fault!" proclamations from Siddar City. And given what Earl Hanth and the ICA accomplished in Thesmar during the Jihad, I don't see folks in that province being to thrilled with those notions either.)

I can see some provinces telling the Lord Protector where to go and what to do when he gets there, with Charis lending support if he tries to compel them. (And given how closely the Siddarmark Army worked with the ICA during the Jihad, I can see various Siddarmark Army officers simply refusing to obey orders from whoever gets appointed to be the new Seneschal if they are ordered to try to compel recalcitrant provinces.)

But if Siddarmark melts down, the last thing Hygyns will accept is that it's his ignorance and incompetence that was the cause. He'll find someone else to blame, regardless of how much of a stretch the accusation might be.
It's definitely too early for the other scene I'd love, which is Spring Flower getting what's coming to him.
I think he has a lot more pain and disappointment coming to him before he shuffles off this mortal coil. He's in the process of getting what's coming to him. He just doesn't know it. :P

The first problem is how they go about generating the hydrogen to provide the lift, since they lack the grounding in chemistry the Charisians have. And they have to have decent build quality and understanding of the dangers using Hydrogen present. The Charisian Air Force is document to have had a couple of vessels destroyed on the ground when no one was on board. I can see Desnair having a Hindenburg style disaster with a ship in the air and crew aboard. I think Emperor Mahrys will be displeased with those he things responsible, and the ice under folks like Showwail might be thinner than they think.

I want the cover art to be Nimue (not Merlin) sitting in a dining rail car, sipping some cherrybean and gazing out the window at the always-present scout...

Granted, I'm a huge fan of Amtrak, and I've always loved trains... 8-)

Love for Spring Flower to sit down on his toilet...and notice some writing on his expensive, imported toilet paper...as he hears a click...oops!
He's sat on "Shan-Wei' foot stool"
Payback is indeed a b****!

We have an Amtrak branded credit card, and get Amtrak points when we use it. My SO and I had enough accumulated enough points to cover a round trip to New Orleans, and we were thinking about it. Then Hurricane Katrina happened. Scratch that idea for a while... :(

But yes, I love trains too, and have for a long time. I'm happy with the job Amtrak manages to do, despite Congress. Congress wants Amtrak to be profitable and self-sustaining, and off the government tit. Fair enough, and Amtrak can do it, if it drops a boatload of routes that don't generate enough fares to cover even part part of the cost of running trains on them.

(The Northeast Corridor is profitable, and a few other routes are, but there are many thousands of miles of branch lines that should be abandoned. And even the NE Corridor has issues. Metroliners are built to do 150mph. There is one four mile stretch in CT where they can. The rest of the main line track just isn't up to it, and laying new track cost about a $million a mile the last I looked. Good luck coming up with the money to do the upgrade.)

But as soon as Congress critters hear that, they see lost votes and squawk and say "Thou shalt not!", but still criticize Amtrak for losing money. Were I the Amtrak head, I'd be tempted to play hardball. I'd bluntly tell Congress I could be profitable, or I could continue to service unprofitable routes, and if that wanted to keep constituents happy and keep votes, they would have to appropriate the money for me to do it. Binary solution set. Pick one...

The nice thing about the Charisian Empire at this point is that Cayleb and Sharleyan are firmly in favor of railroads, so whoever runs their efforts doesn't have to worry about being nit-picked on funding. :)
