I guess I am weird, but I think the Ghaba fight sounds interesting. Personally, I will feel cheated if we don’t have at least a complete story of that fight - all the characters have been moving towards that, so there is an implicit promise of that story. I would prefer a book, but I guess the epilogue would be ok.

To be honest, I was sort of disappointed with TFT at first because it did not have a large time jump. Don’t get me wrong, I liked it by the end, a lot. I just really wanted to see the start of the ghaba fight.

I still remember RFC's mock fan fiction ending, that tied together all his universes, in a true pop space opera format. One of the funniest bits of SF ever.

There's at least one good book there for Safehold vs Gbaba. I hope it gets written.
No, its not. Both of those other series told stories that did not involve years of development. The pace of each of them was compelling. The pace of the Gbaba war is much slower. Besides, those other stories have already been told. Repeating the plots on Safehold is as I said uninteresting.
'is uninteresting' for you... :-)

D'uh! Whose opinion would I offer, but mine? ;)

Besides, if things go according to plan, the Gbaba would be way outclassed technologically in any conflict. That sounds like military porn to me. RFC can make things interesting, but most of those get resolved without fighting. That won't take a book.

Something might go wrong and the Gbaba aren't outclassed. Or things go according to plan but the social and cultural fallout is the meat of the story and not the military conflict. There's definitely stories RFC could tell about confronting the Gbaba or its aftermath but they're quite different stories from the one he's telling about Safehold.

Yes, he could. Almost all of them would conflict with the original Gbaba genocidal mindset or are human conflicts resolved in short order. I am not arguing that is also true for the preparation for war against the Gbaba. That preparation story is can be long and very interesting.

Actual war comes down to having the tech to clean their clocks or not. Both tell a one sided tale. If the Gbaba only fight when confronted by a stronger foe, the story is over once the Gbaba recognize their inferiority. If humans don't wish to engage in genocide, that can be told in less than a book as their forces go through the Gbaba armada like a hit knife through butter.

If the Gbaba are anything like the Bugs, killing them is the only option. If they are redeemable in any way, it won't happen unless they get their clocks cleaned first. That's true because the Gbaba WILL genocide any space faring race. Making the Gbaba a compelling enemy in war for humanity will be tough and likely not as interesting as a human enemy. Everything that makes the Gbaba war interesting won't be about the actual fighting, but the decisions about stopping the fighting. That won't take more than one book.

Might take two, RFC can be... verbose.

But with no need for infodumps, the second book is unecessary.

Given RFC's propensity for underestimating the number of books, the only accurate answer to the OP's question is, "One, so far." :D

I would love to see the Human - Gbaba rematch. Never know what else the Gbaba may have up their sleeves, after all the first war started off with a couple of colonies getting nuked then a string of human victories and then the REAL Gbaba fleet shows up.

Why did they do that? If they had mobilized those killer fleets for the first blitz mankind would have had less time to build their defenses - and possibly wouldn't have had the time to redress the tech imbalance or mount Operation Ark.

If, for whatever reason, they don't escalate a conflict beyond what is necessary to win it, what else may they have in reserve?
