Briiant - made my evening - thank you!
Never seen that bit about Isaac Newton before!

BTW I thought that Irn Bru was banned under the Geneva conventions!

The rubbish in Siddermark compared to deep fried haggis and runny Spam fritters. Yeah, a right proper comparison, that!

Has anyone considered a split ?
Western Siddermark aligned with the temple lands and border states.
Southern Siddermark aligned with Silkiah and the IC.
Eastern and Northern Siddermark indy.
All with a wonderful civil war atmosphere.

I was thinking communist originally because they were simply taking Chrisian property without even a pretense at paying for it. Not just from the country, but from the individual property owners, I think. That will KILL trade with Sidermark; what merchant would bring cargo there, wondering if their ship might be taken from them.

Honestly, it more reminds me of Chavismo than communism or fascism. Third-rate military man 'with a plan' to nationalize everything, declare a chicken in every pot (of his supporters), blame everybody else for their failures, and rely on a mixture of corruption and rhetoric to maintain power.

I speculate that some sort of breakup is inevitable for
Siddermark. The only questions are who will be involved
inside and out and how violent it will be.

*bows with a theatrical flourish* ;)

It's from the game MASS EFFECT 2, which I heartily, extremely recommend. Truly awesome story gameplay music and characters!

Sidermark is such a complete black swan, that there is no single analogy. It is like:

J P Morgan defrauded his bank before he led the consortium to stop the panic of 1907.

The union never sent troops to the South after the ACW, resulting in an unfinished low grade civil war.

The WWII interment camps with the accompanying asset confiscation.

Massive breakdown in public service morality. Rampant bribes by public service, and fraud in business.

Demagoguery on a scale of Juan Peron and Argentina or Hugo Chavez and Venezuela. Taking countries that led South America in per capita GDP and dragging them back to third world status.

Sidermark is the broken window theory on a national basis. About the only thing that could have prevented it would have been Merlin and Nahrmahn working full time to educate and advise Greyghor Stohnar in economics, and civic theory.

A good question is whether Sidermark needed to break up like Harchong in order to isolate social and civic pathologies of destruction.
