Thank you, Donnachaidh. What a delightrful present to bestow on this speculation hungry board.

What might these surprises be?

One of the characters got sneaky and suggested something logical but way off the wall to our author. Who and what are the questions.

Gonna have fun thinking this, well.... over thinking this really, through.

Odds are it's Koryn Gahrvai or his brainy artillerist that sparks the surprise. They are headed to the war zone along with the marine occupation force. That's either along with the King Haraalds to the Gulf of Dohlar or to Siddermark. That will give another ground commander access to more real time intel. Recall that Koryn has some experience using OWLs communiques to shape his tactics.

I just don't see Irys and Daivyn not sending Merlin and Cayleb help. Those troops won't be sent until winter at the earliest. Sharleyan might send some extra mahndrayns to Koryn's force knowing she could get replacements from Charis' manufactories. that gives the Corisandians some time to train prior to their deployment.

How either of these characters surprises RFC, I have only the vaguest idea. One WAG would be that Charles or Alyk twigs part of the truth and can't accept it. Koryn would then respond to his friend's actions. Another would be that OWL and Nahrmahn guide Koryn's forces via communiques from the Seijin network to truely muck up the CoGA allied forces.

I suppose one of the surprises could also entail our young love birds discovering enough of the truth to be told everything. That's a lower order probability along with Sir Dunkyn finding out. Lowest of all would be that Thirsk rebels.

This is all rank speculation and I welcome other tidbits that others might wish to share.

Personally I kind of hope that the surprise has to do with Duchairn. In particular, something along the lines that his own piety and resistance to Zhamsyn inspires loyalty in his guardsmen, including Zhamsyn's hand-picked senior. That would make for an interesting twist with small immediate impact but far-reaching potential.

I agree a snippet would be nice. I hate to sound like the beggar panhandling for a snippet but ....

With basically the same publication date, the first snippet for the last book was April 12. Unless the length is remarkably different, that is what would happen again on a twice a week snippet. The one real hope is that RFC will post what amounts to a tintalating snippet separately as soon as he turns in the manuscript. He did that twice last time and it was wonderful to see the responses they provoked.

Hi PeterZ,

Why pick them?

I like them too, but this is getting ridiculous.

Do you have any hints from RFC or someone else that knows what he's written to support your apparent fixation on Corisande being so important in LAMA?

Otherwise, I have no clue why you think Corisande will so pivotal in LAMA.

Regardless of how quickly Daivyn and Irys are able to switch Corisande around, which I rather doubt is going to be immediate given how much attention RFC pays to the friction of the human elements, the sea-lift is busy going in the other direction, NTM mention the last artillery the Corisandans had were only carronades, hardly the basis for a revolution in artillery.

How do Hector and Irys figure everything out?

We have no textev they're even aware of anything to figure out.

If the Silkiah canals are taken as I've suggested before in the fall of 896, the pressure on Dohlar trying to feed the IDA refugees while fighting on its eastern border possibly in two places, with potential river ironclads escorting the southern ICA army along the coast as it irresistibly proceeds toward Gorath City, might spur some panic in the government that gives Thirsk his chance, but I don't think that will happen until #8 during the alliance general advance, yet it seems more likely than Corisande being in the middle of things.

Apparently April is the best we can hope for when HFQ is released.
