Welcome to Saganami Island Academy the Royal Manticoram Officers training school. Here you will learn to command your ship and fight battles using the doctrine of David Webers Epic Honorverse Saga.

Now I have been reading around and have seen that a lot of people are having a difficult time getting through the game. I myself admit that I have also had a difficult time with it too. I actually had to go through the arduous task of starting a new game thanks to the Willis in the Sachsen sector. A ship that if your not properly prepared will leave you frustrated and ready to give up. Hopefully with this guide we will be able to solve that problem.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First things first. Go to your mobile devices App Store, find the Tales of Honor: The Secret Fleet app/game and download. After the download is complete, click on the Icon and start the game. After a couple minutes of load time you will be given a chance to sign into Game Center or sign in without using Game Center. Pick your sign in and continue.

You will now be introduced to yourself as the Captain of the HMS Galahad and your crew. Then you will fight a short tutorial battle that you can't lose, then a tutorial about your ship and it's systems.

We will start with Battle mechanics. The Galahad has three defense sets and one offense.
The defenses are as follows.

Rolling:: rolling your ship directs your impeller wedge to catch any incoming missiles. Your ships wedge is impenetrable so even Bomb Pumped Lasers or BPL's get absorbed into the wedge.

Lasers:: Lasers zap enemy missiles in range and destroy them.

Counter missiles:: counter missiles aim to destroy incoming missiles.

For now you only have one missile battery and after boosting the system you will fire five missiles at once. You can also change your salvos by tapping the arrow above your firing button. Just tap, tap the missile you want and fire.

Now we get into ships systems. To begin with there are 6 system compartments and each one needs to be fully level boosted to enhance the effects of that system. On your ship screen and in compartment mode you will some full boxes and some empty boxes next to each system name. These are what you want filled to enhance your ship.

To further enhance your ship you will want to earn/buy components to install in the component cells and conduit to connect and chain your components together. Most components stack together or chain. One example is adding more than one level booster and upgrading them will make your system levels higher. Another example is adding several composite payload components to your weapons bay will make your missiles do more and more damage to enemy hulls.

Note::: not all components stack together. For example Disruptor components do not stack.

Now let's get into ships systems. We will start with the bridge and follow the circuit.

Bridge::

Bridge level indicates how fast your ship rolls. You can make it even faster by adding thruster components.

Sidewalls:::

Sidewall levels indicate how many missiles can be stopped by your Sidewalls.

Lasers::

Laser system level indicates how many lasers you can fire at incoming missiles.

Counter Missiles:::

Counter Missile levels indicate how many counter missiles can be fired at incoming missiles.

Engineering:::

Engineering level indicates your hull points. You can raise this by adding Alloy Armor.

Weapons::

Weapons level indicates how many missiles you can throw at one time.

There are all kinds of component upgrades you can earn by fighting random battles and buy at outposts. Make a good mix of faster refresh components and a disruptto make your systems charge faster and to cripple enemy ship systems. Buy level boosters and always be upgrading.

Crew Levels:::

Crew levels mean you can upgrade components to higher levels and speed up your repairs during combat.

I want to add that you can only buy certain components in certain sectors, so make sure you have enough of the items you need from outposts before leaving a sector. You will most likely be receiving a new ship after each sector so buy a few more than you will need.

Salvage Boxes:::

Salvage boxes come in different Rareties. The rarer the box the better the loot. But beware just because you get a certain salvage box does not guarantee the loot.

White= Common

Green= Uncommon

Blue= Rare

Purple= Very Rare

Legendary

This rarity guide is also true for earning/buying components. The color represents the rarity.

Componemts::

Components are classified the same as salvage boxes white being common and orange legendary. Most components like the level boosters and refresh rate components stack creating more effect but some components like weapons and lasers disrupters do not stack.

Note::::

Some unique and legendary components can only be installed once in a system. Or to put it simply, you can only put one unique item in that particular bay. An Example is the hypervalent NAV component which you can only install one of in your bridge bay.

Outside of the live event rewards there are 5 component categories that have items tagged as unique.

1) The simultaneous upgrade components:
Upgrade Power Shunt, Upgrade Ventricle

2) The component upgrade-time reduction components: 1 for each of the 5 rarities

3) The officer upgrade-time reduction components: 1 for each of the 5 rarities

4) Increases max warp charges: Hypervalent NAV Process

5) Multi-touch fire fighting: Fire Mitagation Manifold

Missiles:::

Missiles come in all types. Some shred your lasers, some shred your counter missiles and some shred your missiles. Pay attention to missile colors so you know which defense works best for what missile.

Missile Defences:::

Hull penetrators = any defense

Laser disruptor= Roll, Counter missiles, ECM

Nx-2 Nukes= any defense

M1-antimatter = any defense but sidewall

EMP pulser= Laser, counter missiles , sidewall

M-14 hellfires = any defense

Mavericks = Lasers,ECM, sidewall.

MK-13 BPL= any defense but sidewall

Missile Effects::

Hull penetrator damages Hulls

Lasers Diruptors = shreds laser systems

Nx-2 Nukes = shreds hulls

M-1 antimatter = shreds Sidewall systems

EMP Pulsor = shreds ECM systems

M-14 Hellfire = shreds weapons systems

Maverick = shreds counter missile systems

MK-13 BPL = shreds all systems especially Sidewalls

Battle Difficulty::

Battles increase in difficulty by color of writing used to brief you on your mission.

White = easy

Green = hard

Blue = even more difficult

Orange = most difficult

Weekly Live Events::

Weekly live events are challenge fights consisting of Three system fights or Wave battles that consist of three ships one fought right after the other consecutively and grow in difficulty as you progress. Play multiple times for better chances of earning Rare,Very Rare and Legendary components or loot. You can also pick your degree of difficulty. But don't lose, you will be instantly warped back to the sector you were working. Difficulties listed as :::

EASY

MEDIUM

HARD

Loot Rewards::

Loot rewards come in the fooling.

RARE

VERY RARE

LEGENDARY

Pre-Battle Bonus::

Before each battle you will be given a set of three choices that are bonus'. Pick one to boost your ship systems, or earn extra resources. Bonus' are as follows.

Scrap Salvage Bonus::-------------------- + Salvage

Missile Salvage Bonus::: ---------------- + Salvage

Component Salvage Bonus::------------- + Salvage

Crew Salvage Bonus::--------------------- + Salvage

Prestige Salvage Bonus::------------------ + Salvage

More Power to ECM's::------------------------- + ECM

First Shot::---------------------------------------- + Bridge

Improved Rolling::----------------------------- + Bridge

Bigger Missile Payloads::----------------------- + Counter Missiles

Boost Counter Missiles:: ----------------------- + Counter Missiles

Enemy ship defenses ::

Enemy ship defenses are listed with each ship you fight in sector and includes random battles and side quest ships. Defenses are color coded as follows.

@= Sidewalls

@= ECM

@= Counter missiles

@= Lasers

Note::

This game requires a lot of grinding and farming. Most of the components needed to upgrade your ship enough to get through System battles cannot be bought from outposts and must be won through fighting lots of random and side quest battles. Be prepared to spend around 20 Hours and more per sector to earn the Components you need.

I think I've covered all the basics and need to knows to get started but if I have left anything out please message me and I will list it.

All right so let's start playing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nemea Sector::

The first two sectors are the easiest sectors you will travel through. They are meant as training to get you used to using the right defenses and proper offenses. I never lost a battle here. I wouldn't worry about using special payload missiles during these battles unless you just like the Flair or want to waste resources that could be better saved for future upgrades.

Start by fighting your way through Nemea sector and don't forget to fights lots of repeat battles and I mean a ton. You will need the resources to buy much needed components. Listed below are the components you will need to start with

HMS Galahad

Class:: Destroyer

Hull points::: 1000
Missile tubes::: 1
Defenses::: Lasers, Counter missiles
Crew::: 600
Energy blocks per system::: 5

Bridge:::

Add some resource generators but don't buy the ones in Nemea sector instead wait and get them at out post MN-02. Buy/earn an upgrade power shunt which allows for more upgrades.

Sidewalls:::

Installing a side wall disruptor and faster refresh components are best

Lasers:::

Start by installing a laser disruptor component and a cool down component. By doing so your missiles kill the enemies lasers and refresh faster.

Counter Missiles:::

Same as above start by adding a disruptor and cool down component.

Engineering:::

Start by adding alloy armor and a nanite factories to give you more hull points and making your hull regenerate faster.

Weapons:::
Fill your component cells here with three payload enhancers or faster load components.The next sector gets harder and you will need them till you can afford better payload enhances in the Sachsen sector.

Not much to say after that except you'll be killing a lot of salvage units and breaking up the piracy in the sector. It's a lil more difficult than Nemea but you should do fine as long as you have been installing level boosters from the last sector. I still haven't used a special payload missile. After fighting the sector boss you will be instantly rewarded with a new ship the HMS Corageous. Make sure you have everything you need here then configure your Warshowski sails and plunge through the worm hole to........

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Breslau Sector:::

Breslau Sector:

The Breslau sector starts getting more difficult as you progress from system to system, you will find your self wanting to use special missiles. You are gonna need to spend a few days here buying/earning components and upgrading your crew and components. Once this is done you can move on but read ahead to make sure your prepared for the next sector, it gets even more difficult. Side quests start in this sector also, so you want to make sure and complete these.

Side Quest::

Side quests involve playing lots of random battles to fill a certain quota or complete a certain random battles. They are medium difficulty to Hard but you should have no problem to beating them.

Upgrading the HMS Courageous:::

HMS Courageous::
Hull points:: 1500
Missile tubes:: 2
Defenses:: Lasers, ECM, Counter missiles.
Crew: 800
Energy blocks per system:: 7 except ECM which is 4

The HMS Corageous is not much bigger than the HMS Galahad but the plus is you get a new defense the ECM, another missile battery and more component spaces. The ECM works by frying the enemy missiles electronics and guidance systems.

First off the HMS Corageous needs lots of power. The first thing you will want to do is buy some Level Booster Core II'sat the first outpost to boost your ship levels.

Bridge::: You will want to earn a power shunt and a hypervalent navigational component here in this system to give you more upgrades at a time and to give you more warp charges. And add more thrusters.

Sidewalls::: Want to make sure you have a sidewall disruptor and start upgrading a few optic armors. The next system uses a lot of Bomb pumped lasers so be protected ahead of time.

Lasers::: You want to buy/earn 3x nuclear pump laser components here and one laser disruptor to speed up your lasers refresh rate and to damage the enemies laser system.

Counter Missiles::: you want one disrupter component and a cool down or two.

ECM:: you want to make sure you have enough cool down components for the next sector.

Engineering::: be sure to earn some 800mm Alloy armors.

Weapons:: Fill your component spaces here with three or faster load components.The next sector gets harder and you will need either speed or might depending on your tactics.

TIP::

You want to fight enough Rare, and Legendary battles along with side quests to earn either two Prototype Z-RZ booster or One Ghost-Ion Capacitor for each bay here. By doing so you can remove one to two Level Booster Core II's from each bay allowing you to add more helpful components like defense refresher components. This will also vastly increase your odds of being able to defeat the Sachsen sector boss Wernecke without too much difficulty.

Willis::: This is the most difficult battle you've faced so far. He's got 6000 HP and three missile batteries and knows how to use them. And he has a laser that can zap a couple of your missiles as soon as they are fired.

A lot of people seem to be getting stuck here so offering some kind of strategy would be great for the new people but when it comes to Wernecke there truly is more than one way to skin a tree cat. I personally sped up my refresh time with all my systems using faster refresh Componemts but there are many other ways. The main thing is to stagger your missiles by waiting a second or two. You could also fire salvos of hull penarators and hellfire missiles to take his weapons down and ETC. Just make sure your ships levels are full before fighting

I hope you have been keeping your inventory full of a Level Booster 1'sand Level Booster Core II'sit would be a good idea to buy a one or more of the Gravitic Condensers and Prism-Cloud Distuptors. Your next ship is bigger which means more component cells. So be sure you have everything you need before leaving Sachsen sector.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mannassas Sector:::

Upon entering this sector you will recieve a communique instructing you to take care of the slave problem in the area. You also recieve the Q-ship HMS Dauntless. A Q-ship is a heavily modified merchant ship with concealed weaponry. The idea is to fool an attacking ship into thinking your a defenseless freighter then then destroying said ship when it comes into close contact.

HMS Dauntless:::

Class:: heavy cruiser / Q-ship

Hull points:: 5000
Missile tubes:: 3
Defenses:: Laser, counter missile and ECM.
Crew:: 1,200
Energy blocks per system:: 10

This ship is a heavy cruiser not much bigger than a light cruiser but with massive amounts of defenses and weapons tubes. There were only a couple of component cells added to each system bay. Of course with a bigger ship you will need more power. Go ahead and play the first couple sectors so you can start buying Level Booster III'sThe old boosters won't power t you up much but you should still be able to stave off any attackers till you can afford the new ones.

Again as long as you have been following the guide the battles in this sector are easy. I never fired one special payload missile. The last three missions are Manpowers slave holding outposts. They cannot roll but can fire a lot of missiles at once though it shouldn't be problem. Each gains a lil more HP, the last being 5000HP.

I'm only allowed so many characters per post so I'm having to split this guide into two parts. This is the end of Part one. Please keep reading this thread for part 2 starting with the Formori Sector.

My only problem with this is the part when you recommend using two of the disrupter moduals on one system. When you do that, they disrupt each other, and you get less effect than if you only had one.

I would disagree with adding bridge thrusters instead of resource generators at early levels. Strongly. The percentage reduction is all but unnoticeable. The bonus from resource generators is highly noticeable however.

Beyond the tutorial pair of missions, there are two sectors for the destroyer; Nemea (1st Sector) and Enigma (2nd Sector). In the Nemea Sector, at Nemea Outpost, you can purchase an Upgrade Power Shunt. For 31,200 plasma, it allows you to upgrade 3 more items simultaneously, for a total of 5 components. This is vastly more efficient than trying to increase upgrade speed via the upgrade reduction line.

However, you don't want to purchase that until you've hit Outpost MN-02 and picked up at least one each of the Resonant Synthesizer and Crystalization Chamber. 1,320 plasma per hour doesn't sound like much, but if you have four of them running that's 5,280 plasma per hour, with up to 60k stored. Logging in for a quick 60 second session twice per day nets you 120k plasma. Don't buy the Plasma Synthesizer and Metal Fabricator available at the Nemea Outpost; they are traps. You should have just barely earned the 30k plasma and metal required for one each of the green versions when you hit Outpost MN-02 if you've saved your money.

Nanite factories are likewise traps. Your regeneration rate is not high enough to allow the relatively small bonuses from lower rarity nanite items to balance out the raw HP of armor unless you are in a very long fight.

Payload enhancers are valuable for weapons. However, I have been regularly able to beat hard mode event bosses using a light cruiser. I also have had zero problems with the campaign end of sector bosses, including beating Warnecke very easily on my first attempt. A major part of that was weapon cooldown items.

I can't fire enough missiles at once to beat the defenses of those enemies. I *can* fire missiles often enough to sneak them through while their weapons recharge, and adding a system damage component to every system means that once I've gotten a half-dozen salvos through, the fight suddenly gets much easier.

As crewdude48 said, the system damage items do not stack. Try it for yourself in an endgame ship. Use two items in each system in the first fight, one in the next.

This is a nice guide, unfortunately it is now near obsolete because of the big changes from the July 10th 2014 patch, most of the outposts content was changed, you can find the new content here:

http://forums.davidweber.net/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=6019

Basically, it is very important to buy about 20 Level Booster I from the first sector before leaving to Sector 2.

The Level Booster II are NOT available at any outposts.

The Level Booster III are only available from the Sector 5 (buy 15-20 of them before going to sector 6).

As for the Mission 30 Honor among Thieves, the Warnecke/Willis fight, I did have trouble with it but managed to defeat it with limited components options here:

http://forums.davidweber.net/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=5999

Good luck!

Yes I update this guide pretty regularly to include new features changes in game play and of course what components can be bought and where. Everything up to Breslau is accurate and was recorded after the July 10th update.

I see it now, if I may provide a suggestion, add a big note telling people to buy 15-20 Level Booster I before leaving to second sector, I couldn't have made it without these!

P.S. Hope you don't mind, I completed my outpost guide with some of your information.

FYI it seems that this has been fixed. I saw someone on the other board mention it and I ran a quick double-check. Stacking system damage items no longer seems to screw up your ability to damage enemy systems. (I didn't test well enough to see if they're stacking properly; just that you can inflict more than trivial system damage with a matched pair of legendary system damaged components installed)

I'm in the middle of reworking the Sachsen sector guide to accommodate the July 2014 changes but in the meantime I have added the Breslau sector. Formori sector is correct and Manasas sector will be coming soon.

As of Wednesday, August 6th all outpost contents are correct.

This will probably be a constantly evolving guide so check back regularly for new features and information.

Enemy ships defenses coming soon!!
