I think I've never seen someone argue that people fleeing from a country because of violence and crime must be violent criminals before.
Then again, we've been here before, haven't we. Couple years back, idiots were absolutely convinced that ISIS was smuggling Ebola patients into the US.... |

Applying for refugee status is not illegal immigration.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled xenophobic ranting from the right. |

We are not talking about wanting to imprison people on the presumption that they are criminals. We just want to vet them including background checks of crime records in origin countries. |

No problem then. The US will round them up and ship them all off to your home planet, wherever that is. |

Gather round class as we examine this sterling example of American conservative thought. Note the total lack of anything even resembling an attempt to address the point that is being responded to. This is a common feature of "debate" among US conservatives who, lacking the ability to rationally defend their positions but unwilling to re-examine their views in the face of their errors, deflect and try to change the subject instead. Next we see the choice of topic for deflection. The reflexive appeal to rounding up the undesirable minorities even though it has just been pointed out that they are behaving in accordance with the law. And the juvenile jabs at the place of origin of the person who has just pointed out their error, in the minds of conservatives the place an opinion is being expressed from is often far more important that whether the opinion being expressed is correct or not... an outgrowth of the endemic xenophobia infesting right wing political thought in the US. Homework assignment tonight is to find ten more examples of this behavior for further examination, it should take about 30 seconds of scanning this forum. |

Just perusing the actual international conventions, https://ijrcenter.org/refugee-law/ it is apparent that the US has considerable authority in how and when legal immigrants can claim refugee status. The US also has a right to detain refugees. The refugee conventions are a recent aberation not universally recognized. No reason why the US should not revert to pre WW2 standards for admitting immigrants. |

Certainly don't seem to be idiots to me. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.forbes ... eapon/amp/ Key point is that immigrants can be screened and therefore should be screened. This group obviously is not going to allow any screening, are they? |

And none of that leeway extends to calling them illegal when they haven't even entered the country.
Under specific circumstances the current administration is ignoring.
They were signed by the US, and thus are US law. According to that pesky Constitution thing anyway. |
