While I appreciate that weather isn't climate, this week in Australia in our summer is interesting.
Just been told that December 2018 was our hottest December on record, while January 2019 was both our hottest January and our hottest month on record.
In the past week, we have had - snow in Tasmania, record high temperatures in the bulk of the country, record rainfall in our northern state's north (more than 2 metres in a couple of days), an enormous dust storm more than 1500 kilometres long across the centre of the country, and really weird localised stuff. The beyond belief rainfall has caused a disaster as the area bigger than several European countries is our beef cattle raising region, which has had a 9 year drought, so the cattle were weak, and it is estimated that 750,000 have drowned. TV footage shot from choppers shows water to the horizon in all direction with floating dead cattle everywhere.

The few climate change deniers left are careful to only comment in anonymous blogs now.
One of Australia's possessions Norfolk Island is a little spec in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, and it is suffering the worst drought on record. I've been there, pretty and green, now brown. How can an island with 2,000 kms of water around it on all sides be dry?

I am pleased that you appreciate the difference between weather and climate, at least on an intellectual level.

One of the implications of the AGW Theological construct that atmospheric CO2 concentrations dictate atmospheric H2O concentrations is that warming will result in more evaporation from the oceans and thus result in moremglobal precipitation aswell as river flows. So far, no such increase in global precipitation andriver flows hasbeen demonstrated.

The fact that the center of a continent can be inudated while a tiny island surrounded by ocean can be parched only confirms that weather isn't climate.

It is somewhat like the folks in India, China and Pakistan bleating about receeding glaciers in the Himalayas when temperatures and precipitation rates have continued to follow a normal cycle. It does not occur to the idiots that all of the soot from their shitty coal fired piwer plants is darkening the glaciers, causing them to melt or sublime more rapidly.

Living near New Zealand we visit periodically, and their glaciers are receding steadily. No soot there as they mainly use hydro electricity.

The center had a 1000 mile dust storm.

It's about 500,000 sq mile of Queensland that is flooded.

Or, to put it in US terms, more than the area of Texas and California, combined.

Are the glaciers receeding because of reduced precipitation rather than increased temperature?

Fair comment.
I'm not sure but it does appear that in the southern hemisphere climate change is more clear cut and obvious. New Zealand still has good rain and snow falls, but the temperatures are quite different. Their hydro lakes are still full. Talking to a cousin in Blenheim (South Island) by Skype today, he spoke of a week over 30 degrees with 33 degrees yesterday. Check out on a globe where it is. Temperatures rarely used to get over 25 ever.

With us it tends to be the monsoon. A monsoon trough forms across the top of Australia, causing the "Top end wet season". This often spawns cyclones (hurricane, typhoon equiv). However the system has changed in recent years, so we get severe droughts and floods at the same time, but different places in the continent.
