Sigh. On our newspaper opinion page blogs we get this from our alt rights, that because the NAZIs had socialist in their title they were socialists.
Counter it with Political History 1.01 that the Nazis were total opposites to socialists, and that any political history text points that out, and the standard rebuttal is cringe worthy.
Apparently all Universities are hot beds of "Cultural Marxism" and hard socialism, that brain wash their students so all conform to such lies. This is apparent because anyone with an education disagrees with them, so obviously all have been brainwashed and turned into obedient clones.
The difference I do note Peter is that you come across as articulate, highly intelligent, and a thinker; whereas our rabid conservatives misspell every second word, and are barely capable of coherent thought.

There are some commonalities between Nazis and socialists (particularly extreme socialists) and some differences.

On what they have in common side

Both are into government control of the individual

Both are into government control of the economy

Both are into government control of social institutions

Both are the end justifies the means ideologies.

Jew (Nazi) = rich (socialist), different targets but similar rhetoric

On the difference side

Nazis were big believers in social Darwinism whereas socialists try to make everyone equal ( in theory at least, in practice the extreme forms seem to wind up in Animal Farm (some are more equal than others))

Nazis the individual serves the state, socialists the state serves the individual ( in theory in practice - the I know what is best for you state makes individuals who disagree follow its dictates anyway which is similar to serving the state, though not identical)

Nazis don't have less extreme forms; socialists do

First point shows that you have no idea what you are talking about.

Edit:

Actually, every point shows that you have no idea what you are talking about.

Here's a hint. Read the US declaration of independence. It's most fundamental pronouncement is the absolute core of socialism.

For us, people tend to forget that the official title of our country is The Commonwealth of Australia, so it is evident that our founders and writers of our constitution believed that we should hold national wealth in common.
Like most wealthy modern developed countries we have a Social Democratic system, where capitalism is encouraged but controled, and there is a national welfare and health net.

I can think of a country where the government is constantly trying to, for example, control women's choices about their bodies more than most developed nations.

It isn't the ones you would say are "socialist" though. Or even the elements in that country you would claim are "socialist".

In fact, on the CATO institute's index of personal freedom the United States ranks 28th in the world.

Top 10?

1 Denmark 9.58 7.67 8.62
2 Austria 9.50 7.56 8.53
3 Norway 9.47 7.51 8.49
4 Netherlands 9.45 7.63 8.54
5 Germany 9.44 7.55 8.49
6 Finland 9.43 7.68 8.55
7 Switzerland 9.41 8.25 8.83
7 Luxembourg 9.41 7.65 8.53
9 Iceland 9.38 7.06 8.22
10 Sweden 9.37 7.46 8.42

(As of 2014, last update I could find)

https://object.cato.org/sites/cato.org/ ... date-3.pdf

Pretty sure those are all those "socialist" countries you claim the government is taking control over the individual in. (And good luck claiming the CATO institute has some kind of liberal bias or something)

Both are into government control of the economy

Effective regulation of, absolutely.

Both are into government control of social institutions

Define "social institutions".

Both are the end justifies the means ideologies.

The "means" of socialism hardly require justifying by their ends. They are mundane methods of common sense governance.

Jew (Nazi) = rich (socialist), different targets but similar rhetoric

Oh sure, because you can't go anywhere in Europe without hearing the calls for anyone with wealth to be thrown into a concentration camp.

On the difference side

Oh FFS, no they do not. They strive for equality of opportunity, not outcome. And they tend to ACHIEVE IT better than the US does.

http://www.epi.org/publication/usa-lags ... -mobility/

If you want to grow up to make it big in America, it is far more important you be born to rich parents than it is if you want to grow up to make it big in, say, Denmark or Norway or Canada or Sweden or Germany.

You are simply peddling a fictional narrative.
