Fort Trump. NO! NO! NO NO! NO NO! NOOOO!

Suddenly I realize why Rip Van Winkle fell asleep for 20 years. PLEASE! WAKE ME WHEN THIS SHIT IS OVER!

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

Because if it is, then US democracy is doomed. No democracy could survive such sheer idiocy.

Were you not the one who admonished me for being an "old woman" about two months ago? Right now total US fatalities from the Coronavirus are comparable to a typical Flu season. Most of the people who are dying are elderly with pre-existing conditions that make it likely that they would die of something anyway. Of course we now have only .2% of the population infected. Is it possible that we can manage the epidemic with out destroying the economy? Keep in mind that the damage to the economy is compromising our ability to manufacture medical supplies and equipment. The lock down might kill far more people than the Coronavirus.

If we manage to contain the virus by the lockdown and other measures we have taken, then yes the stats look something like a normal flu season.

Without those measures however then the doomsday stats come into play.

Yes, shutting down the economy over a sustained period is not sustainable. Results become as bad or worse than coronavirus. Where that tipping point is at this time an unanswered question.

Interesting article in our press today about redneck protests in some states wanting restrictions lifted. A standout was the Texas governor calling for their elderly to sacrifice themselves so everyone could go back to work.
Third world stuff.

Have they taken leave of their senses over there?
And if the elderly says no thank you, we prefer to stay hold up in our homes. What’s going to be the next brilliant idea?

Lifted from the internet.

Should Trump be blamed for the coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic?

A little history lesson for everyone on both sides of the political divide.

In December 2013, an 18-month-old boy in Guinea was bitten by a bat and died a brutal death a day later. After that, there were five more fatal cases. When Ebola spread out of the Guinea borders into neighboring Liberia and Sierra Leone in July 2014, President Obama (and Biden) activated the Emergency Operations at the Center for Disease Control. The CDC immediately deployed personnel to West Africa to coordinate a response that included vector tracing, testing, education, logistics, and communication.

Altogether, the CDC, trained 24,655 medical workers in West Africa, educating them on how to prevent and control the disease before a single case left Africa or reached the U.S.

Working with the U.N. and the World Health Organization, Obama/Biden ordered the re-routing of travelers heading to the U.S. through certain specific airports equipped to handle mass testing.

Back home, more than 6,500 people were trained through mock outbreaks and practice scenarios, before a single case hit America.

Three months after Obama/Biden activated this unprecedented response, on September 30, 2014, we detected our first case in the US. A man had traveled from West Africa to Dallas and somehow slipped through the testing protocol. He was immediately detected and isolated. He died a week later. Two nurses who tended to him contracted Ebola but later recovered. All the protocols had worked. It was contained.
The Ebola epidemic could have easily become a pandemic, but thanks to the actions of our government, it never did. Those THREE EBOLA CONFIRMED CASES were the ONLY cases of Ebola in the US because Obama/Biden did what needed to be done THREE MONTHS PRIOR TO THE FIRST CASE.

Ebola is much more contagious and deadly than COVID-19. Had Obama/Biden not acted swiftly, millions of Americans would have died horrible, painful, deaths (if you’ve never seen how Ebola kills, it’s horrific).

Because Obama/Biden acted decisively we forget about their actions since the disease never reached our shores.

Now the story of COVID-19 and Trump’s response that we know about thus far:

in 2018 Trump fired Homeland Security Advisor Tom Bossart whose job was to coordinate a response to global pandemics - he was not replaced.

in 2018 Dr. Luciano Borio, the NSC Director for Medical and Bio Defense Preparedness left the job. He was not replaced.

in 2018 Trump stopped funding the CDC epidemic prevention activities in 39 out of 49 countries including China.

in 2019 Tim Zimmer, the NCS's Senior Director for Global Health Security and Bio-Defense left and was not replaced. instead Trump show down the entire Global Health Security agency.

Before anyone even knew about the disease (even in China) Trump disbanded the pandemic response team that Obama\Biden had put in place. He cut funding to the CDC, and he cut our contribution to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Trump fired Rear Admiral Timothy Ziemer, the National Security Council Person in charge of stopping the spread of infectious diseases before they reach our country - a position created by the Obama/Biden administration.

When the outbreak started in China, Trump assumed it was China’s problem and sent no research, supplies or help of any kind. We were in a trade war (and he is a racist), why should he help them?

In January he received a briefing from our intelligence organizations that the outbreak was much worse than China was admitting and that it would definitely hit our country if something wasn’t done to prevent it. He ignored the report, not trusting our own intelligence.

When the disease spread to Europe, the World Health Organization offered a plethora of tests to the United States. Trump turned them down, saying private companies here would make the tests “better” if we needed them. However, he never ordered U.S. companies to make tests.

According to scientists at Yale and several public university medical schools, when they asked for permission to start working on our own testing protocol and potential treatments or vaccines, they were denied by Trump’s FDA.

When Trump knew about the first case in the US he did nothing. It was just one case and the patient was isolated. When doctors and scientists started screaming in the media that this was a mistake, Trump claimed it was a “liberal hoax” conjured up to try to make him “look bad after impeachment failed.”

The next time Trump spoke of COVID-19, we had SIXTY-FOUR CONFIRMED CASES but Trump went before microphones and told the American public that we only had FIFTEEN cases “and pretty soon that number will be close to zero.” All while the disease was spreading, he took no action to get more tests.

Trump stopped flights from China from coming here. This was too late and accomplished nothing according to scientists and doctors. By then the disease was worldwide and was already spreading exponentially in the U.S. by Americans, not Chinese people as Trump would like you to believe.

Currently on the morning of April 14, 2020, we have 582,594 COVID-19 CONFIRMED CASES and 23,649 COVID-19 DEATHS in the US. The actual number is undoubtedly more than triple that amount.

Trump has now killed more Americans than the Iraq War (4576) Afghanistan War (2216), September 11 (2977 - including NY casualties, people on the planes and the Pentagon), and Pear Harbor (2403) combined. In fact, he is now close to killing twice that total and is the worst enemy this country has faced in our life time.

As if you needed one more reason to vote, here it is.

Some of them are batsh*t crazy. Others are simply afraid and don't know how to cope. Their paychecks are gone and they are focusing on that rather than on the threat of the virus which they don't understand.

The tragic thing is that were they to get their way, neither problem would be solved. Lifting the restrictions wouldn't help with the pandemic or restore their jobs.

It’s so easy for that sociopathic Lt. Governor to call for sacrifice, in that he probably has the wherewithal to hunker down, in spite of his grandiose speech making.
Yet the choice for Jo(sephine)-paycheck; living on paycheck to paycheck to pay for food and rent for the family, is much more stark. Face eviction and hunger, or the chance of getting infected by the virus! The fear and uncertainty must be overwhelming.
Then to top it all, having a President who instead of being the focal point for co-operation and unity, is so busy playing politics with the crisis, all the while the daily body count keeps rising.
Reminiscent of Nero scratching away on his fiddle, while Rome was burning down around his ears!

Yep, I really admired his ability to manipulate the Democrats into preventing him from pushing through that financial aid package for businesses under the guise of needing to add Social Justice provisions.
Maneuvering his enemies to do his own dirty work like that is indeed the mark of a truly Xanatos-level intellect.

Yep. The problem at the top is worse than the virus because it cripples our ability to deal with anything else that happens along the way.
