Some political ideas produce good one liners. Here is one.

In America, we get the kind of government we deserve. Is this the best we can do?

Ben Franklin said it best:

A virtuous and industrious people may be cheaply governed.

A long one:

If you noticed a pattern of malcontents bombing and killing people because they lack the moral clarity to win on the battlefield of ideas, where--you know?-- truth is a potent weapon, then congratulations.

Ah a mangled quote of Ol' Will Rodgers' quip, "America has the best government money can buy, unfortunately we're all poor folks."

Poker

Can anyone guess who this is about :?: ;)

He has a blind spot, though: an obsessive belief that he knows best: better than an opposition he appears to consider cynical, corrupt, or stupid.

Any belief in your infallibility is the best way to be fallible, unless you are God himself. One of the best ways to find your mistakes is to listen to critics, and subject both their criticisms and your own ideas to the best test methods you know about or can find out about. There isn't enough time to test everything, which is one good reason to listen to others, and apply whatever tests are possible.

OTOH if you don't do whatever you can do, you earn your problems. Analysis paralysis is not just a problem for investors.

One hundred and thirty-five years ago Tocqueville gravely warned that unless individual citizens were regularly involved in the action of governing themselves, self-government would pass from the scene.

Yeah :?:

If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.

Good question:

What makes our leaders think we are immune from the destructive forces of a shaky financial foundation?

A really long one:

Higher taxes, more regulations, more social welfare programs, watered -down education were promised elixirs of the problem...check anywhere in the world where they have been implemented and you will see amazing gulfs between the haves and the have-nots.

So long as there are taxpayer funded spoils to be had, the crony jackals will descend.

Anywhere there are spoils, however most of the politicos seem to be more susceptible. There are honest politicians, but the process of finding them reminds me of getting metal from ore.

Local law enforcement arbitrariness must be seen as symptomatic of arbitrariness at higher levels.

Perceived or real, racism doesn't have to deter you from being all God created you to be.

Also:
Prejudice can easily be overcome through education, integration and humility, but racism is largely a spiritual issue that deals with pride and other matters of the heart.

Throughout most of history, war has been the norm, peace the exception.

Fiction is fun, but reality always gets the last bite.

The nominal minimum wage in Seattle is now $15 per hour, which means a growing number of the city’s residents will now be making the real minimum wage: $0 per hour.

Except the ones who already DID buy the government and are ever since raking in big bundles of cash from it.

A long one:

Hi tech remains the one area that develops so quickly, the political class is too slow to regulate it to death, and the central banks cannot keep it from providing better things at lower prices, because its productivity growth is so fast it more than balances out the negative effects of money printing and credit expansion.

Well chosen DIY can be good also. Our backyard garden helps our finances enough to cover the real estate taxes, although not the heat (this is North Dakota). Gardening does take spending a little time outside on nice days, tho. At least it makes a good excuse :) We are also working on cutting down heat loss.

It has been 16 months since Camden took the unusual step of eliminating its police force and replacing it with a new one run by the county. …the old force had all but given up responding to some types of crimes.

Camden, NJ. The rest of the column is also wow, both good and bad :!: VERY well worth reading.

A system of beliefs that cannot rely on persuasion to win over doubters is a weak and defective one.

Why a well designed republic is better than a democracy :!:

Democracy is the serially uninformed and easily led being suckered into voting against their own best interests by deep-pocketed grifters who are looking out only for themselves.
