It's looking more and more obvious that that "imminent threat" Trump used to justify the assassination didn't exactly, um, exist. They couldn't come up with one even in a classified briefing for Congress, and now even Pompeo, desperately trying to defend the strike, has admitted they had no info on when or where such a threat might be. ("But there totally was one! Trust us!")

This has been the pattern of doing things ever since the Trump administration began. Nobody should be surprised.

The Secretary of Defense admitted on national television he had seen no evidence of these claimed imminent strikes on US embassies Trump was spouting off about to justify the assassination.

If SecDef didn't see it it didn't exist, unless they want to try claiming that intel was also too sensitive for the Secretary of Defense's clearance level. Which I wouldn't put past them because no lie is too stupid or brazen for these people.

So the assault on the US embassy in Iraq didn't happen?

No, its just there were no direct evidence that Iranians are linked with it somehow.

You know "imminent" doesn't mean "already happened" right?

As in Iran's top terrorists coming to town right after an attack on the US Embassy gives you probably cause that the terrorist is coming to Iraq to organize another assault on the embassy and launch a coup to displace even the Shiite dominated government. Solinami had already been cleared as a target for past offenses anyway.

But of course my favorite response is:

1. That is not what was claimed. It was claimed they had specific intelligence an attack was imminent. Because that's what is *needed* to make the assassination even arguably legal.

2. He was there in an official diplomatic capacity.

3. "Probable cause" is not the legal standard that gives the president the authorization to commit an act of war without Congressional approval

You do understand that Trump's decision to kill a known, high ranking terrorist commander was far from unprecedented?

I confess I am no fan of Obama's casual carnage that so often killed arguably innocentt people. However; President Trump's decision to kill Solonomi in a very precisely targeted attack is righteous, particularly in context of the recent attack on the embassy.

Since the difference between "killing terrorist commander" and "killing second most powerful official member of a nation's government the US is not at war with" has already been repeatedly pointed out to you at this point I'm just going to have to assume your continued ignorance on this is feigned.

Because, well, I'm being charitable since the other option is more insulting.
