Yes, it looks like it worked very well since from my reading of that they were arrested *trying* to get guns they had so far failed to get. Probably because it wasn't the US and they couldn't just pick up an arsenal at Wal Mart or off some private classified ad for guns for sale. You know, sometimes I think you're so bad at this you must be actively trying to make our point for us. |

gcomeau is, unsurprisingly, correct.
The relevant parts are:
translated:
(Note what was not mentioned: firearms) The article implies that one of the reasons these would-be terrorists were caught was because they tried to reach out to arms dealers to acquire firearms, so based purely on it, the conclusion that Germany's strict gun control laws did what they are supposed to is a valid one to make. As gc pointed out, in the US, these same people would have had no difficulty acquiring firearms at all, making it far more likely that they could carry out whatever crime they had planned before law enforcement had enough evidence on them to justify making a raid. |

The sentence above is an excellent example of how some people doesn't really have an argument. Instead they reach for the most idiotic comparison they can think of, which also shows how despicable and dishonest they are. --- Jack of all trades and destructive tinkerer. Anyone who have simple solutions for complex problems is a fool. |

Yep, It is not like they could have used a truck. https://www.nytimes.com/video/world/eur ... olded.html The weapons used in the deadliest mass murder ever committed by a single assailant in the US was a match and a pop bottle of gasoline. |

All they had to do was join a gun club and participate in skeet or trap shooting competitions and then they could buy pump action shotguns of the type that was used in New Zealand, Washington Navy Yard, Sante Fe Texas, Australia familicides, Anapolis Newsroom or Columbine. |

You keep pointing to rare events to rail against laws that prevent them being the damn near daiy event that they are in the USA. The absolute best pro gin control arguement I could make to you is to is to tell you to do an honest read of your own posts. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You are so going to die. :p ~~~~ runsforcelery ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ still not dead. |

They could have. They chose not to, and got caught as a result. I call that a good reason to have restrictive firearms laws in our country. So, thank you for agreeing that restrictive firearms laws do work very well in preventing widespread use of such weapons.
Hah, no. Getting a gun legally requires extensive background checks, depending on age including a psychiatric evaluation. Once you pass that, you need to register your intent to buy a weapon with the relevant authorities, buy the gun, then register that gun. For people doing shooting sports, there's an additional requirement of regular attendance (once per month or 18 times within a year) at shooting events before you can actually own a gun. Basically, getting a gun legally leaves so many traces and requires so many background checks that prospective criminals or terrorists have a hard time getting there. That doesn't mean it's impossible, of course -- but compared to the US, it might as well be. (Also, do bear in mind that the licence to own a gun and the licence to actually carry a gun are separate, with the latter being almost impossible to obtain unless you are running security on armored transports)
You really need to stop using NRA pamphlets as a substitute for history lessons. |
