We have other tools also: over the centuries a number of methods have been developed to test ideas. Two that are too often honored more in words than reality are the scientific methods (several variations) and the judicial/historical methods (again several variations). Both, properly applied, require checking against reality, instead of rhetoric.

Quite clearly, Newsom is factually wrong and author Robert Heinlein was proven correct: an armed society is a polite society.

The only places where we have significant, long-term pockets of violence in this Republic are in Democrat-led cities, and within those cities, they tend to be relatively small, hyper-violent areas where criminals living a “gangsta” lifestyle engage in a cycle of murder and retribution directly tied narcotics trafficking and turf wars.

Has anyone on this blog looked up the facts on this? Did Heinlein get this correct
:?:

It seems to me that much would depend on the culture - the gangsta groups are not polite. Some other cultures agree with weapons for defense and sports, but not aggression and retribution

Automatic nomination for a Darwin Award with a great chance of winning one.

Also very tight restrictions on the condition in which a gun has to be before it can be displayed or carried (i.e. locked by gun lock or otherwise disabled, all munitions unloaded etc). One might even call this sort of thing "gun control regulations" :P

Quite often a requirement from the venue's insurance provider.

Which kind of says a lot actually.

Ok, the plane landing during Sen. Cruz's speech was brilliant.

And the odds that the merchant DOESN'T have a legal CCW? Betting against that for all the exhibitors improves the chances of winning the award. Deservedly so!

Is it just me or does the RNC resemble the reunion show of Survivor? Even has the final graceless moments.

Or one of those VH1 "what ever happened to this person from decades ago..." shows.

I mean how the hell does Scott freaking Baio get a Prime Time speaking slot at a major parties national convention? Seriously? You know, the slots where normally former presidents and the like address the nation...

(Well, ok, not a lot of people wanted those speaking slots... and the only former GOP presidents that could have done it both have a last name you don't necessarily want to remind the country of...but still...)

Not surprising. He is targeting the aging blue collar vote. Those folks have very strong Democrat affiliation but have been lured away by folks like Reagan. It is not an appeal to policy but an emotional appeal. Baio was a face that reminds them of those better, younger days.

I wonder if Trump's kids will be effective at reach millennials? Not sure how successful they will be. Even if they are successful enough to reduce the potential fervor of that demographic, it will benefit Trump.
