Ever hear of "white collar" crime? If you’re the one in charge of picking who gets what job, how hard would it be to put someone in the position of setting up the computer/automated-system and programming it to fudge the numbers and syphon off money/resources to your private stash for a little share for them? Any auto-mated system is set up and maintained by people & anything set up and maintained by people is subject to corruption. You don’t think this kind of thing isn’t happening in China right now, how many rich “government officials” are there in China? Every single socialist country that has fallen so-far has had to deal with their, former, “socialist” leader trying to run (or actually running) off with a large chunk of the country’s wealth, when they flee. Every single, so-called, socialist leader has proven to be greedier than any capitalist ever was, and a lair. Every “socialist” I’ve ever met was far greedier than any free American I’ve ever met. The catch-term of socialism is “sharing” “it’s good”. What they mean is YOU have to share, what YOU have with ME! Not I’LL share what I have with YOU. It is the greediest system ever devised and teaches people that they can take whatever they want, because “YOU have to ‘share’!” When working here in Texas, we have many workers from various countries and the ones from socialist countries are the most selfish and greedy. For example, the limited microwaves in the break room. I’ve never had a fellow American come in while I’m using one and toss his food on-top of mine and change the timer. I’ve had several immigrants from socialist countries do that! “You have to share!” “no, you have to wait your turn!” >:( don't ruin my food because your to selfish to wait a few minutes.

At the risk of throwing gasoline on the fire, could you be more specific about which socialist countries? I've had quite a bit of experience with the Swedes for example and the majority (there are some exceptions) are very polite and willing to wait their turn.

Guns don't fire themselves. Someone pulled that trigger.

Did spomething about my statement describing people pulling the guns give you the impression I was unaware people were involved in the equation and thus needed that pointed out?

And yeah people can use other far less effective things as weapons. You know the good thing about them having to use those instead of far too readily available guns? People end up dead less often. You know, due to that "far less effective" detail.

If you hadnt noticed about china recently, Thyeve been having a crackdown on corruption under their new leader because it looks bad to have so much discontent in their country of the ruling elite.

And yes I have heard of white collar crime, but i have also heard of people like the serious fraud office, who every year get better tools and manage to find more fraud.
Given improved laws and audit methods, I forsee a reduced chance of problems like enron re-occuring, especially as we can learn from our mistakes and cover loopholes and abusable laws as we learn of them....

Once again the definition of Socialist trips us up. Just because a country has socialist in its title, and its fearless leader talks about socialism doesn't make it so. The fallen dictatorships whose leaders take the cash are generally ultra right places whatever they are called.
As an example I wouldn't call North Korea a socialist country, but would call Norway and Sweden socialist.

Something different.

Has there ever been a time when the right to own guns wasn't abridged?
I don't mean regulations, or banning one type of weapon or another.

I mean outright "you may not own a gun at all"

IIRC certain people owing firearms has been illegal in the USA from the start, slaves, native Americans, felons, and the insane. The specifics have changed over time, and it is a state definition rather than a national one.

That's what I thought, and every case of it happening would be unconstitutional if I read things right.

Oh, if you ban guns you get interesting stuff, like a fight between a guy armed with a shovel and a guy armed with a chainsaw.

I want to honor the chemistry teacher who was a Muslim that defended his university and his students against Islamic radicals or Islamic terrorists. Unfortunately, I could not qoute from the article or leave a link to article. By all accounts this man is hero that acted with honor in attack upon his university. It happened this year in Pakistan. It takes real courage to stand agianst men armed with automatic rifles and teacher only had a handgun. My salute to warrior within this teacher.

And thank goodness for someone stating the obvious. Or what at least SHOULD be the obvious.
