So I am having my depressive day today. Thinking about world politics didn't improve my mood at all either.
Now with Trump doing what he can to help Russia conquer Ukraine (except for his occasional publicity stunt to gaslight the public) and China's foreign minister after 3 years of war feeling emboldened enough to explicitly say that China can not allow Russia to lose this war it seems clear that the result of the Ukraine war will be catastrophically bad for the West.
That means that Russia will be strengthened considerably - and also emboldened by the West's continued failed policies - which in turn means that China will be emboldened too and have its hands free to conquer Taiwan. When that happens (I fear its not an if anymore) the US will not have the means to do much in Europe, being busy losing a war against China in Asia and Russia will be free to go after the Baltics and whatever else they want to plant their Russian soldiers' boots on. (As Putin so elequently said recently). So full blown WWIII.

Several years ago a paper by the CIA listed the best spots to survive Armageddon. Southern hemisphere, away from huge cities, but in a stable democratic country, with plentyful food. Came up with rural Queensland Australia. I've got a spare room if it all goes pear shaped. Hopefully Sting's lyrics still hold, "The Russians love their children too." If Putin's daughters and their kids disappear, duck. Xi in China is practical and pragmatic. His rhetoric and bluster is more for internal consumption (I hope).
