He apparently had a 'peaceful' passing in his sleep (09/08/2017) following a pleasant time at DragonCon. Generally given credit for the first book authored entirely on a computer (1977), he was also a BYTE Magazine Columnist (Chaos Manor), co-author with Larry Niven of multiple novels, Science and Space advocate and a 'father' of military SF.

I am sure that many of us will be raising a glass to his shade! Fare thee well!

Sad news. His stories brought much pleasure to many, and helped develop the genre.
