Medals G Slv B Total
USA --43 37 38 118
UK ----27 22 17 66
China -26 18 26 70

The UK has managed to punch above it's weight class with 27 Golds, beating China by 1.
If you assume that Gold = 3 points, Silver = 2 and Bronze = 1 then the USA finished with 321 points, the UK with 142 and China with 140, so the UK is second either way.
Considering the relatively small size of the UK (even though we are one of the more densely populated countries in the world), coming second is pretty darn good.

Too bad Her Majesty didn't return to compete for the Skydiving medal again.

Depending on how many gold medals Canada wins and how many other medals we win, Canada changes how winners are determined. In one way we would say China was second, total number of medals regardless of number of gold. or if we get lots of Gold, then total number of gold then looking at silver or bronze for ties. We flip flop all the time between the two systems. So in one way you are number 2 in another 3.

Flip flop, flip flop.

On the other hand if you go by new F1 rules gold would be 20 silver 12 and bronze 8.

Then China would win by 944 to 940.

Of course in Canada we have a better than Gold medal as well, Gold is Second, Silver Third and Bronze Fourth. The best is Excellence. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada_Fi ... rd_Program

Then if you want a more level playing field have the UK split into England, Wales and Scotland; the US into clumps of states at about the same population; and so on. The Chinese would agree then forcibly migrate all their athletes into one province.

The official (such as it is) listing of the IOC lists standings by the number of Gold Medals won. Only the United States uses Total number of medals; (possibly due to a couple of Olympics where they won the most medals but less Golds than another country & so would not have topped the table otherwise).

Anyway, we're use to the way you mangle the English Language, so why not this?

Hmm, 16th... Better than i would have thought since we didn´t really have a great lineup.

More annoyingly worse however, the Swedish committee selecting who gets to go to the olympics, they´re frickin idiots, so instead of sending the best possible in as many sports as possible, as you would assume, no, instead they select from those who has managed results above set limits during a specific time.

And sometimes, they set those limits insanely, and they are idiots about the cutoff time. I know someone commented on a sport this time, i think it was one of the longer distances in running, where the limit set was at such a level, that noone at the olympics actually managed it at all.
But if the best 2 Swedish runners that could have been sent had repeated their best results this year, they would have been in the top 10, probably with at least some chance for medals.

SOOOO STUPID!!!

So beware, Sweden is seriously dragged down by a cheapskate and stupid olympic committee that refuses to send as many of our best as we are allowed to enter.
